Hardware & Technical Dual Joysticks or Throttle/Joystick

Currently I am playing keyboard and mouse and doing just fine, except that using the keyboard for flight manoeuvres is less than ideal. It seems most are using joystick and throttle, but I like the fine adjustments to thrusters I can make by tapping keys and Im not sure if I could do the same thing with a throttle. This has got me thinking to just get 2 joysticks instead.

So I guess my questions are, anyone running dual joysticks that has used a throttle? what do you prefer? and is there any problems with trying to set up 2 joysticks in game?

I can't give you input on dual sticks, but I've read threads on here and Star Citizen from people who really like it. I'll let them tell you about it. Just wanted to pose another option that I really like. Best of both worlds.

Well, most of the HOTAS setups provide additional hats on the Throttle that can (and are) used for fine manoeuvres. Feels fine enough for me.
I have not tried 2 joystics at once though: I tried x52pro, x55 and x52pros's joystic with logitech g12.
Both joystic+throttle and joystic+keypad setups work fine.

Adding several joystics did not lead to any setup problems.

While I have only every owned this one, My Speedlink Black Widow together with a 31 key, USB keypad. re-labled as needed, works great for me.

Total cost was less than £30

Having not used a throttle, they look like they have a certain amount of resistance in their movement, particularly when trying to fine tune your SC speed for a smooth drop onto a station I usually tap keys to get it just right, im just not sure if the throttles will be as accurate. I supposed its just a matter of getting used to it.

I think the deciding factor would be what are you using your off hand for the most? Dual sticks look great in theory, and work decently enough (I've tried) but if you only need to use your strafe thrusters every now and then, but need to constantly use your throttle then it would make more sense to get a dedicated throttle with a secondary means of controlling your thrusters. If you're comfortable with adjusting the throttle digitally (increase/decrease buttons) then this could be mapped to the secondary stick's buttons.

Personally i find the ability to make rapid, fine adjustments to the throttle far outweigh the need to make delicate thruster inputs, but I'm still eying up a CH pro throttle with its mini joystick, or working out a means to mod one on to my T-Flight HOTAS.

You can also use the throttle on the second stick, I think much of it comes down to preference and what you find more immersive for you though I would daresay two stick gives you more control of your ship in dogfights
