Dual Sticks w/ rudders question

Afternoon CMDRs,

I think it is time to make the leap. But as I only play Elite (and potentially Star Citizen if that ever gets finished), I am not sure if I would truly prefer a HOTAS. I have used both, dual sticks I've encountered more in arcades, but I would say the dual stick layout feels more intuitive to me for a space flight game.

That out of the way, my question is has anyone tried twist sticks (not sure if anyone sells a left handed twist yaw stick)but mapped to throttle, and if so how did that treat you? The reason I ask is because I am a motorcycle commuter, so that kind of muscle memory and method of input is pretty well burnt in my hands.

Thanks, and fly it like you stole it CMDRs

I've bought a pair of VKB Gladiator mkII's to use with a pair of Mongoose T-50 grips as a home built high end dual stick set up. The reason I've went with the gladiator mk2's is they are the only joystick on the market just now with a cammed gimbal like (the warthog) rather than a spring and ball mechanism, that include a twist function. I'm planning having yaw pitch and roll on the right hand stick twist, y and x axis' with the left hand stick having twist controling vertical thrusters, and back/forward/left/right thrusters being moving the left stick in that direction. I'm probably going to be a couple of months away from building this due to IRL commitments, but PM me if you would like to keep in touch and I can send you some build details / feedback on how it flies.

As far as I know, your only real option for a left-handed stick would be: Thrustmaster T.16000M - http://www.thrustmaster.com/products/t16000m
It is (re)configurable for left or right hand use.

Otherwise, there's a lot of you weirdo pilots out there looking for one of these and not finding many options :)

(Myself, I am neither handed - I can't do anything with either hand!)

T16000m all the way. Precise, sturdy and Elite Orange. Fully ambidextrous, comes with parts to mirror the thumbgrip. The throttle is a great piece of kit too, and the pedals are amazing. I've just upgraded from a HotasX and I'm blown away by this thing.

I want thrustmaster to have my babies. A pair of T16000M is what you need.

I use dual T16000m joysticks. Right stick pitch and roll with twist doing rudder. Left stick forward/backward thrust and left/right thrust with twist up/down thrust. Left stick slider is throttle and right stick slider sensor range.

Very easy and intuitive. Be sure to set some dead zones on the left stick to prevent accidental inputs from just holding the stick.

In supercruise directional control is with right stick while keeping my left hand flat on the left side of the left stick base with thumb controlling throttle and forefinger resting on the frame shift button.

When engaged in heavy maneuvering I set the throttle to the middle of the blue zone then use the left stick to adjust thrust in any direction as needed.

Best sidestick I have found is the Logitech Attack 3. Not made anymore, you can get them on amazon/ebay. I wouldn't fly with anything else.
