love the idea, and it would be a totally awesome game.. but it is a very, very, ambitious project. i think it's appeal lies very much in the total package, which is very much a great sounding kit bash, of other titles on, or about to hit, the market. would there be enough interest in playing this game, if they say released it in 'preexisting game-like' chunks? im not so sure, even if it was released as a, watered down version, of the full game, i think it would struggle. and im not sure how long it would take to produce a completed, stable game for release.. would likely be some time down the road
they really do have their work cut out for them. there was an interesting section on their site that goes into some faq about the game, worth looking at if you haven't already, they do seem to be saying the all the right things, but then so did SC. there is always that balance between 'this is what we want to achieve for the game' and 'this is what we need to achieve to release the game'.
want to achieve - what they pitch to us as a fully developed game.
need to achieve - what they need to provide us with, to want to pay for, and play it. (for me, it is the concept as a whole, that appeals, not any particular feature)
for every feature (regardless of depth) that they need to include for release to make this game what they are pitching, there is an equal number of opportunities for things to not quite measure up to the idea, or players expectation. the more starting features they include, the harder it will be for them to keep on top of 'any' problems they encounter, while too few starting features, puts them at risk of not providing enough of the game they are wanting to develop. i know it is essentially early days, but it does seem that the only area they have properly ironed out so far, is the pricing model. it was the thing that jumped out most, while reading through all the information, and while i appreciate the reasoning, it seems to be a little like putting the cart before the horse.. although, i may just be experiencing some late night cynicism lol
