The game uses tab targeting like EVE or WOW. With that, you won't need any skill for aiming at all, i.e., space combat will be decided by your ship stats and rolling the dice.
This design decision was confirmed by the devs here:

Yes, although this is good for some and bad for others.

For me I am not a git gud master so I would be ok with traveller style.
 
EVE meets Space Engineers, sort of? Intriguing project to say the least. Will definitely keep en eye on it.
