DualShock 4: Aim assist + FA-OFF

Hi commanders,

Just wondering if we get some aim assist to compensate playing with a gamepad, as it is common in other games. Does anyone with PC and PS4 noted any difference aiming fixed weapons?

Also, It is impossible (at least for me) to efficiently map the 6 movement directions (roll, pitch, yaw, up/down, forward/backward, left/right) + firing to the DS4 controls. I've tried this roll into pitch thing but is not working for me. So, in the same line, wouldn't be ta good idea to increase the positional thrusters multipliers when FA-ON for gamepad users?

Maybe someone can share tips to FA-OFF with DS4 (beyond the boost -> FA-OFF -> turn -> FA-ON). Also any fixed weapon aiming tips would be welcome, I find myself much more effective in combat (PVE) with gimbals than fixed.

Cheers cmdrs!

Gimbal weapons?

It is hard to aim with FA off almost in any controller. A joystick seems more natural but it is as hard as with the mouse or the gamepad. There is literarily no need for an AIM assist when you get close enough to your target that it basically fills up the screen.

It is definitely not a good idea. It wont help you. You might find useful a more 'refined' mode for rotational thrusters, but a boost will just make it worse. Also, I suggest you to map the FA off thrusters as digital inputs and not axis, makes life much easier since the accel/deceleration you get on the ship is still gradual.

You can't have that many 'tips' if you can't setup all the controls in a gamepad, but try having thruster up/down in a button you can always press in combat. Even with FA On this still gives you the ability to circulate your targets.

And yes, with FA-off the target gets more 'on screen' time than without, balance if you are able to fire more often and that should cover the damage difference between fixed and gimballed until you have a proper control setup.

Cheers!

Gimballed weapons replaces aim assist. Yes, they cause less damage, but considering one doesn't waste ammo as they do when missing, they are actually better in giving damage.

You may want to consider a HOTAS. See my sig for more \/

I agree with this.^
It makes aiming fixed weapons much easier imo.

You can map 6 axes on the DS4 but you'll probably lose something you want mapped easy to use.

At least swap boost away from the landing gear in the meantime!

We need not any compensation because WE=YOU/ME (PS4 players) can meet only another PS4 players .. thus the same limitation ..
.. unless we speak of NPCs, but they aren't serious problem ... are they ? :)

I decided to learn FA-OFF with the DS4 and after a few days of fiddling the best setup I found is as follows: map your L2 and R2 to your lateral thrusters, use the motion sensing headlook and your fire button will be....L3. Yes, I know it sounds horrible and to some extent it is but you will get used to it. It gives you all the flight axis available so you can truly practice FA-OFF skills. Because you have fire on L3, you will want to specialize in certain weapon types that only require a quick tap of the fire button rather than keeping it held down. So this means Plasma Accelerators, Railguns, Frag Cannons and Missiles. It's certainly less than ideal in terms of combat but it makes the FA-OFF flying very enjoyable.

After I practiced this for around a fortnight, I purchased the PS4 HOTAS and by comparison to the DS4, the HOTAS comes off pretty well. Obviously you can have access to all available flight axis at once, which is great. In terms of control it's a real shame that you cannot adjust any of the axis curves because some of them (mainly the yaw axis used by twisting the stick) are too sensitive. Having used the HOTAS for two weeks now, I can almost fly FA-OFF as accurately as I could with a DS4 but at first it's like trying to pat your head and rub your tummy while reciting the alphabet backwards. Overall I would recommend the HOTAS but be aware that the main downside is that you have fewer control bindings available (as the HOTAS has no touchpad) and driving around in the SRV is way better on the DS4. It is possible to set up the HOTAS so you can drive and shoot while in turret mode but it's pretty horrible. I'm really hoping that we will get separate control profiles for HOTAS and DS4 so we can switch between them, whereas at the moment, if you try to switch from one to the other during play, it will wipe your custom control profile!
