Dumb computers and poor quality parts

why is it while exploring the first thing the computer does when you get hull damage is it opens the cargo bay doors and throws out the hull repair limpets. I suppose the best thing to do in a boat if you spring a leak is smash a bigger hole. And why cant these space ports get better parts. there always seems to be a ruptured power manifold.

It's like a hot air balloon when you run out of fuel and it's dropping into a lava pit, the first thing you throw out to stay airborne is the pilot, because it's his fault. Although really I guess it's because doors in a pressure hull are weak points and liable to go first before anything else. I think they should have a fuel pipe rupture as well, so not only do you have hull damage and all your repair limpets have flown out the broken hatch, you have 60 seconds until all your fuel has leaked out of the ruptured fuel hose, now it's getting fun and realistic!

"doors in a pressure hull are weak points and liable to go first before anything else."
Wow i quess i was taught wrong in collage before the federal aviation administration certified my A&P license. the taught me the doors are the strongest part of the hull. How about doorways in a building are they the weakest part of a building.

I've never understood this, on ships, watertight doors have locking "dogs" (not the canine variety), so if I powerdown my cargo hatch, with it locked secure, it should be like a bank vault, virtually impenetrable, not like a curtain side lorry where a decent penknife can break in to it...

Cargo hatches will only eject cargo when a hatchbreaker is successful or it's directly damaged by weapons fire or heat.

It also has very low module HP, regardless of ship, so even a short time overheating can cause it to malfunction.
