Dumb question about the Xbox One controller chat pad.

I picked one up yesterday because why not. My question. Is there a way to make the back lighting stay on all the time. Also how do I use the X1/2 buttons?

I use one, most of the time. Apart from typing I only use the buttons you mentioned X1 for screenshot and X2 for recording a video.

The back light always goes off. I'm presuming to save power

X1 and X2 can be programmed under the Devices & Accessories menu (I'm Italian and not sure how's spelled in English).

I don't remember which commands you can set there, I've X1 with "screenshot"... for the backlight, I am not sure you can keep it on.

Other options are to see the party chat, send message, make a clip... not game related I believe.

X1 is fer screenshots and x2 is a record function...the backlight being permanently on...not sure about that or if its even possible. Great wee tool if ye cant get a standard usb keyboard to work properly, highly recommended and it doesnt get in the way with a surprisingly snug fit ^

I wish we could tweak the backlight timeout on it, it always seems to go off just a bit too quick for me! I've also gotten into the habit of pressing one of the buttons at the right hand side, (think it's a volume button if I recall), to wake it up before typing when using it in the dark.

Would also be nice if it lit up automatically whenever a text entry box/onscreen keyboard came up on the Xbox.

Shift button is bottom-left, learn where it is & commit to muscle memory, then press that* in order to get the backlight back up without making any inputs

*tap don't hold, holding it puts you in caps lock

Without wishing to insult yourself or your intelligence, Un1k0rn.

I just wanted to point out, perhaps pedantically, that the xbone chatpad won't physically fit onto a razer wildact controller. The only negative I can see of one of these devices.

It's particularly handy for inputting system names. As others have stated I haven't found a worthwhile use for X1 & X2 buttons beyond screengrab & grab video. It's much more efficient that using the home button to catch that special moment. But I do wish that bypassing the onscreen keyboard was possible when fitted. Suspect that M$ can't/won't impliment that function.

Sadly the backlight can't be set up to stay on more after the last button press. It disappears after a few seconds in order to save power I think. You can configure the X1/X2 buttons in the Xbox Accessories app on the console. However, I use their default functions. It's extremely convenient to quickly grab a screen or video without having to pause the game.

I know. If you saw my peripheral collection though, you'd notice the amount of gamepads I use. The Chat pad is going to see use on my PC mainly, when the Wildcat replaces the standard pad.
