Dumb question but: How long does it take for bulletin boards to refresh missions?

Long story short, working on appeasing a small faction - only 1-2 stations. So when they're not offering missions, not much I can do. I saw someone mention on the forums they wait for the boards to refresh. Do you have to log in/out to do that, and if not how long is the refresh cycle?

Please enlighten this peasant.

Seems to happen every 5 minutes the far I've noticed (it's not a complete refresh, however, but partial - new mission(s) added, some older ones removed), like 10:00, 10:05, and so on.

You can change mode to refresh. Open>group>solo. I once met a CMDR doing this for naval rank missions.

It seems to be exactly 1 second less than the time it takes you to change from your fighter to your cargo ship in order to accept that amazingly lucrative transport mission.

It occurs every full 5 Minutes on the Station clock.

So if you don't see anything of interest at i.e. 18:04:30 GMT, it's worth checking again at ~18:05:10 GMT (allow a few seconds slack for server lag, I usually give it those 10sec and that seems to work for me).
If you're out of luck at i.e. 19:10:30... ~19:15:10 will be your next chance.

I noticed that if I accepted a charity mission and completed it. Then Saved and exited to main menu, went to solo play, Saved and exited to main menu, and went back to open play that the charity mission would still be there. I could complete it like 3 or 4 times in 5 minutes before it disappeared and it counted every time!

Also keep in mind that the BB loves to refresh after you accept a mission. I lost two delivery missions I had my eye on yesterday, because the BB decided to fully refresh itself after accepting one. So it also might troll you hard ;)

Missions further down the board get knocked off first, upper ones tend to slowly move down the board with each update.

Thanks folks. Sounds like a good time to drink beer and watch adult cartoons in my underwear while waiting for the Unionists of Adrunguni (or however its spelled) to decide I'm the man they need.

Arrgh... cannot... un-see!!!! :D

As above, if there are multiple missions you want to accept, always grab the lowermost mission first. This reduces the chances of the mission above disappearing. Not completely, but I have found it makes quite a difference.

I always thought this happened because you stop complying with mission conditions. E.g. there are two tasty courier missions, but you only have cargospace to fit one. So you accept one and the second goes to available but unobtainable list.

I guess I was wrong then.

That happens as well - the mission filter (rep grade, cargo space, etc) works on whatever is being offered at the time.

Switching game modes and getting back to the bulletin board takes about one minute. Sometimes you end up with the same mission set but mostly they refresh. Do this to pick up lots of assassin missions, going after the same target type and get paid multiple times for doing the same job. E.g. kill 9 pirates, kill 7 pirates, kill 6 pirates and kill 3 pirates. Then go and kill 9 pirates and all the missions are complete.

Yeah, that is one possibility, but in that case it just gets filtered into unobtainable. When the BB refresh hits, the mission goes poof permanently. As per the advice of RedRaven, will start taking missions from bottom to top from now on :p

Why miss out on 100-150k worth of easy money just because I selected the wrong job first, rigth? :D

The OP is actually a very good question, and it would help all of us to understand the mechanics better. Has anybody done some research on this?
My current hypotheses:
- standard BB refreshes are between 5-10 mins
- they refresh more quickly when missions are picked and the board empties
- they are created when an instance is created. That's why an initial switch between modes (open, solo, group) gives new missions, but then you have to wait 5-10 mins

Has anybody checked if BB missions are the same for any commander who's in the same instance? I sometimes have the impression that BB turnover is increased in busy instances.

I'm willing to do more tests when back in the bubble (currently exploring)
