In another thread, far, far away an intrepid explorer was stuck. His rescuer only had to mine some materials to give him the jumponium he needed to continue.

So for the purposes of gathering MATERIALS a refinery is not needed, just a mining laser?

Yes that's correct. A refinery is only needed to convert fragments into ore.

Edit: Oh, and no question is dumb. Only the one never asked. :D

Just remember that the small and medium mining lasers have the same mass, so unless you don't have a way to manage the power for it, which you should be able to...take the medium if you have the hard point for it.

I'm doing my circumnavigation with a mining laser now just in case there's a similar call not too far away from me :)
