Dumb question.

Can you find and kill skimmers from a ship or do you need to be rolling around on the surface? I want to give killing the little buggers a go but dont have a SRV set up yet and I am unable to locate them from the air.

You can kill them with dumb fire missiles and explosive Multi cannons. Missiles are handy if you just CBA landing.

You need to fly fairly low to get them to spawn tho, few metres from the ground should do it.

last time I tried to kill skimmers from a ship was in a POI where they were defending cargo. I couldn't get the ship to fire on the skimmers, so I rammed them to death. But each time I did this, it disabled both my drives and shields.

You can, but it's hard to target them unless you're really close.

Saw somebody do this yesterday with mines actually. Was really effective.

I believe fixed weapons can hit them relatively easily, the relative part dependent on your skill with fixed weapons.
Dumbfire missiles and mines work well though, though a bombing run with mines takes a good bit of skill to pull off.

"Dive" bombing is a lot easier, although you don't exactly dive.. just float pointing down.

Just to add, that while you can destroy them from a ship, if you're after taking them out for missions, I'm not sure it counts against the mission tally, since you cannot target them.

At least, that is my experience.
