Duration of (Premium) Beta

Hi folks,

any guesses or information on how long the (Premium) Beta will be and if they are organized in phases like the Alpha?

The Alpha now lasts for ~ 5 months (since December). If the Premium Beta and Beta are also organized into 4 phases of which each one lasts one month, the release (Gamma) will be in February 2015. :eek:

No idea, but I remember some thought that Alpha would only last for about two weeks.

We now have two phases that will introduce the galaxy as a whole, some kind of random mission structures, ship to ship docking, trading between players, grouping and avoiding players and other things that popped up in the DDF. That I have forgotten about.

Could be a long time.

Ive a question..... Once ive started prem beta, will I have access to normal beta and gamma if they do gamma? until release. :S

It depends and I'm not qualified to answer it. FD probably have some kind of ideal time-frame laid out for Beta roll-outs but much is dependent on what bugs are discovered and how long it takes to correct them.

Months I'd guess ;)

I think FD are pretty committed to a retail release this year so I wouldn't expect the Beta or Gamma phases to be anywhere near as long as the Alpha.

I thing 30 sept for gamma. Mr Braben suggested there would be an extended gamma phase for 6 months to kickstarter backers only so even if gamma was 1st July the retail release would not be this year. Giving only 1 month to beta backers would mean a lot of unhappy campers. They are selling beta for £100, it has to be worth more than 4 weeks.

I am working on 2 months for Prem Beta and 1 month for Beta with a bit of lag on top for slippage and allowance for summer holidays that would take us to end of September which would be the 30th Anniversary and time for Gamma.

I would hazard a guess, and this is a guess ill go for early september, and ill make another guess ED probably be out mid December.
But this is based on guess work anythink can happen ^^

my Guess (and it only a guess) is

Premium Beta 2 months
Standard Beta 2 months
Gama starting Sept 20th 2014, 30 years to the day of the original release.

Yes premium beta gives you access to all phases of the beta and it also includes any and all major downloadable expansions that are released and a downloadable copy of the finished game.

Michael Brooks has confirmed in previous posts on the forum that the finished game will definitely be released in 2014.

There still a lot of work to do.

is it possible that premium beta could have more 4 stages (like it was the alpha).
30 september for gamma is too much optimistic for me.

i say november for gamma and december for the final release (if everything will be fine and no major problems will comes out).

I agree with you. I was seeing long ago the gamma for the anniversary of Elite, in september. And the retail version for Christmas or early 2015. Michael said that Frontier is looking of 2014 for the retail version. Two months for the premium beta and the rest for the standard beta, until the gamma in september. Those are plausible speculations

Two weeks? I don't remember any mention of two weeks lol. It was two months for Alpha wasn't it??

I'd like to think it'll go gold for September....

I know the alpha has lasted a long while, but it's not as though it's been one release every two weeks. It's often been show stopper problems where little testing was possible by a lot of testers.

In the kickstarter, the alpha was for december 2013 and premium beta for january 2014. One month or two months between both, depending on the angle of view

Not quite correct. They buy premium beta for 100, for that they get full game (worth 35) and the Expansion pass (worth 35) so in effect they are paying 30 for the chance to play it early, not 100. How many weeks is 30 pounds worth. Remember those preordering for 35 pounds have to wait until release.

What is gamma version? What is the purpose? I thought beta was to squash all the bugs.
