Duration of (Premium) Beta

IMO Alpha duration and phases is not indicative of the beta ones. It took longer than planned during KS due to "over optimism" and changes in the design (FSD). The netcode, in particular, was problematic.

I do not expect the other phases to last as long - September seems feasible for Gamma, although it can slip a bit.

FD has no obligation to make Beta phases last beyond one month.

I'm trying to determine whether to upgrade to premium.

I was expecting to be in the first beta, but turns out I'm not
(mistakenly was under the impression my pledgelevel was 10 pounds higher than it actually is), imagine my disapointment.
I could upgrade to premium for 35pounds extra, but am not convinced if it would be worth it if it is only to have a few weeks early access.
As I've got little spare time, a few weeks won't make much of a difference to me, but having to wait several months most certainly would drive me crazy.

It would be nice to have more definate idea as what the aimed for duration would be, rather than 'enough' or 'as much as it takes' or 'soon'.

If they try to release for September 30th, I'd expect many features to be cut, and a lot of people to be unhappy. If they try to release this year, I'd expect a few features to be cut (ships and some of the more esoteric aspects discussed in the DDF). Early to mid next year seems more reasonable. IMHO

That's my 'Wild Guess' for the day... :)

That is release, in another word 'gamma'.

This thread is about premium vs standard beta, one tends to expect missing features and unstability in any beta.

I'm wondering the same. As an early backer I qualify for all future updates, but am just £10 short of Premium Beta access. I too thought the Alpha and initial beta stages would be shorter - I'm actually glad they were NOT as the game has undoubtedly been improved because of it.

I'd almost expect the Premium Beta stage to be as long as the Alpha (ignoring expected Release dates for the moment) due to the volume of new testers and (in my view) the need for there to be more of a Game in place for what I would consider true beta.

My feeling is that Premium Beta should last a minimum of Three months or so, subject to issues or player-driven changes the community really want. So we'd see the current Premium Beta becoming a much more functionally complete game ready for the normal Beta.

Normal Beta I'd expect to be more about padding out content where core functionality, proven in the Alpha and Premium Beta, remains largely unchanged.

Just my take on things :)

Thankfully for me, it's just a £10 option for me currently, though I would feel a little cheated if my £10 only bought me a couple of weeks :) Yes, I'm that tight! lol.

Cheers,

Scoob.

Hi folks,

any guesses or information on how long the (Premium) Beta will be and if they are organized in phases like the Alpha?

The Alpha now lasts for ~ 5 months (since December). If the Premium Beta and Beta are also organized into 4 phases of which each one lasts one month, the release (Gamma) will be in February 2015.

Kind regards,

Valerius

having spent many years doing Alpha and beta testing, im going to say that both beta stages will be finished by September at the latest.

If I'm not mistaken the backer's app is no longer available for upgrades?

Ashley told me, with my pledge level (10GBP short of premium), I could get a 85GBP discount on Premium, (which is equal value to beta+expansionpass).
At 120GBP that makes 35GBP for upgrade to premium.

I'd love to be wrong about this... am I?

Hey,

Ah, I just queried this in another thread. Though I pledged (and paid lol) £90 in the original kick starter, and this is shown in my account details along with the appropriate rewards. On the Store I'm only showing as having £85 value, meaning I'm being asked for £15 to upgrade to Premium Beta rather than the expected £10.

Basically, it looks like things didn't translate 100% from the Kickstarter. Being an original KS backer, I felt I got a good deal for my £90, but it's still £90 paid and not £85. I assumed it was a simple mistake that my £90 pledge appears to be valued at only £85 in the store, am I wrong?

I raised a ticket, so we'll see what happens. Worse case I skip Premium Beta and wait until the main Beta - which was my original plan until I got all enthused again.

Cheers,

Scoob.

This is correct any discount is applied based on products you have in the store, not the kickstarter rewards as these are tracked separately.
