General / Off-Topic Dutch elections

So, its election night over here. Basic info based on national observations and exit polls (actual results to follow):

80+% of eligible voters showed up and actually voted. Yay, proud of it! Center-right 'VVD' by far the largest with 31 seats, even though they got less votes than last time around. Seems inevitable we keep the same PM. Not my party, but he is a sane guy with fairly balanced views. Its a shame environmental issues are not a priority with him in any way at all, but you cant expect a PM of a small country to to too much there. I can live with this. Populist 'PVV' was expected to either win or come close, but are expected to get around 19 seats. Labour 'PvdA' hammered and down to 9, but the green party 'GL' from 4 up to 16. Socialists (SP) more or less stay the same at 14 seats, christian center party gains and is estimated at 19 seats. Environmental Left party 'PvDD' (which got my vote for the first time) went from 2 to 5 seats, their highest ever.

Formations will be very difficult. Current estimates are expecting it will take many months and eventually result in a left/center/right/progressive/conservative coalition without the populist PVV. Chance of 'nexit' is basically 0%. To be continued!

Update: So far the most likely coalition seems to be VVD (conservative center-right), CDA (conservative center), D66 (progressive center) and GL (progressive left). May be one of the most 'democratically valid' governments the western world has seen in a while. :p

I was very happy to hear about the turnout and the gains for the Green party. It's also great to see that for the most part, the voters rejected Wilder's rabble rousing.

It may be confusing for the non-Dutch, but the green movement includes, for example, the Christian center party CU (not to be confused with the Christian CDA, who are environmentally neutral and the environmentally catastrophic Christian SGP), leftish PvdD and others. In general the outspoken green parties went from 23 to 46 seats. :) Wilders will be 57 years old next election, which in the Netherlands is ancient for a politician. Most likely scenario is he will just cruise to retirement with a solid but irrelevant following.

I really hope so. The last thing you guys need is for him to keep this up until he's well into his seventies.

It seems that Wilder wishes to co-govern with the PM. He will certainly have difficulty to realize this wish

Unlikely. They dont come close to a majority, Rutte already ruled it out and noone else would join. Its actually pretty much what Wilders want: shout from the sideline and keep cashing his salary. He had exactly zero plans/ideas on education, health care, social security, defense or anything other than 'boo islam/eu'. He doesnt want responsibility.

They didn't call him "the dutch Trump" for no reason.

The US might have to learn the hard way that electing an incompetent one trick pony into office is not "in the interest of the people" and that there are actually a million rather complex little topics that serious administrations handle which make our life as decent as it is.
Even Trump's tax cuts are a joke. My "upper middle class" relatives (bout 200.000 household income) would save around 300$ a year in taxes. That's less than they pay to keep their pool heated.

Sincere admiration for the Dutch who succeeded in not being dragged down the same rabbit hole that the UK and USA are currently inhabiting.

It is nice to see that after all the racist rhetoric and fear mongoring, that common sense has won the day.

I was not too worried about the election outcomes in the Netherlands, btw. I've worked in Amsterdam for a year, so, not so long, but enough to realise how cool headed dutches were. They don't let their bull meter filling up too fast.
