Dying to know about dying thread

i am currently a long way out of the bubble but heading back. it occurs to me that if something happens and i die i will be respawned at the last dock i was in.

does this really make sense if thats 14000 ly away from the place i die and the nearest station in the bubble is only a few hundred? should we ask FD to consider adding a choice to where we leave hospital - last dock or nearest dock to death site?

im curious to know. i would probably not play for months if i died 200 ly from the bubble but not just because it meant i had to grind more weeks of my time to jump 500 odd jumps to get back to the bubble - but also because of the lost exploration data. what would you want in such a situation?

Its for gameplay reasons: your legacy fines are added to your insurance if you spawn at 'the wrong dock'. Giving people a choice wont really do that any good. Its mostly academic, but at a time when people want more rather than less C&P its worth keeping in mind. :)

hmm i try to avoid fines so i did not think of that angle, just that its more logical that you would have your distress call responded to and be taken to most likely the nearest dock not the last one you were at.

edit: given that it would be logistically easier and more likely, any fines would just be tough lol. i was also thinking about proper facilities to treat you but i expect most rescue ships are also hospital ships.

If you don't mind losing your ship you still have a choice. When I went to Colonia in a somewhat less than ideal ship, I couldn't face the journey back. So I settled my affairs and bought a Sidewinder and proceed to destroy my new Sidewinder. With the rebuy screen I returned to my starting system. It cost a small fortune to transfer my ship back to the bubble but these days credits aren't hard to get.

Actually, you cannot declare bankruptcy in 2.3b if you have the cash for a rebuy. Not sure if intentional or not, noticed it today.

unfortunately i am at least 13k from colonia and 9k from the bubble so i have no access to buy a sidewinder. otherwise i might have tried it. i now have too much exp data to do it anyways. im commited to 9000 ly of 25 ly at best jumps. so near enough 400 jumps to get back to civilisation...
