Dynamic volunteer-run event team.

This is a suggestion. Constructive criticism is welcomed, replies that say 'No.' and other pointless posts are not. Thank you. :)

I'd like to see a volunteer-led dynamic event team, in various parts of the inhabited galaxy (open only, sorry, but as I play on Mobius, even I know it wouldn't work otherwise), officially sanctioned by Frontier, with various 'tools' that allow certain in-game actions - a very, very, basic example would be a volunteer-piloted capital ship, attempting a raid on a enemy faction station, with other volunteers flying other ships. If the invading force wasn't destroyed within a certain amount of time, the station would be crippled for a number of in-game days, which would affect economy, factions, etc.

The beauty would of course be more opportunity for roleplay - for example, allowing players aligned with the invading force to attack with them, taunting players with (officially accepted) comms chatter. This whole thing could be part of a bigger ingame storyline, with a reasonable reward for taking part - a bit like CG's but more fun :p - maybe a separate tier system.

This is just a single example. I am currently in such a group in a game called Everquest II (Guides), and it works very well there. I can only imagine how epic such a thing would be here. Given the sheer size of the game, it would be logical to annouce events via Galnet, with specific stations giving more details in the form of missions.

Of course, the biggest problem with these ideas is misuse, although I would imagine this would be a minor problem. Volunteer teams are always based on a line management system, and as I said, this works very well in other games.

It would need to be sanctioned by Frontier, to allow certain 'flags' on player accounts, and ships, so they don't just get fined etc as usual.

Of course, there will be the usual minority of 'D' rated players here who will immediately scorn this idea. Fine, but rather than just disagree and that's it, why not suggest a way to improve the idea.
