E : D is a truly wonderful game... isn't it....?

I think that the game we have is a fabulous game and not enough people are saying it loudly enough!

We've had the trials of Alpha where the fab Alpha gang put up with resets galore... Truly difficult and changeable gameplay... A bucketload of problems with connectivity and yet there was a wonderful spirit in the Alpha forums despite the troubles.

We moved on to Premium Beta where we gained a new crowd of people and some new challenges and functionality. The devs gave us more ships to play with and more systems and a fabulous spacestation at Aulin... The trading was and excellent add on although the trading conditions were less than ideal everyone managed to have a go with some degree of success...

So where are we now?

We're heading into the brave new world of Standard Beta with Police Actions, a fabulous trading enhancement for the Galaxy map, more systems, trans system comms and pan galaxy text communications... Finally we'll have the grouping functionality in-game, something a lot of us have been wanting for a while... A chance to meet in-game with our friends on and off the forums and have a laugh!

So, with this in mind big up FD and big up ED and remind everyone of what is so great about this, still incomplete (can you believe that?) game!

To those who are not so sure... It does get easier with time as you acclimatise to the controls... Remember when you started driving you couldn't look at the road and be aware of the instruments at the same time and squeezing through that narrow(ish) gap was 'impossible'? The same applies to in-game... You WILL get better and docking WILL get faster. I guarantee it so long as you stick with it and keep practising... All those players you've seen hurtling through the letter box were all dreadful to begin with and started with the same level of skill as you... Never give up and never take things for granted... Graft and you'll be rewardedm THAT's what the game is about... Graft and persistence... It's not a race as someone said elsewhere, it's about your own journey and your own experiences.

Have fun and see you in-game.

Well said MikeSnos.

I didn't think they made games for people like me anymore. I have been proved utterly wrong, and I'm thrilled.

Get those troops rallied before SB kicks in.

Whilst I agree it's a wonderful game, you've got a bit of rose-tinted glasses when it comes to we Alpha-players mate... we grumbled too. There just less of us. And most of us knew the forums quite well already. We did laugh more I think though.

Couldn't agree more! Playing Elite Dangerous is a truly awesome experience, even at this early stage and with what FD has planned it can only get better. Looking forward to Beta 1!

Yes, well said MikeSnos. When i think about how this game is going to develop, it just blows your mind.
Beta 1...bring it on...

Reading posts like this is ackward. Its like the game is "the best". The huge space is allready seen in other star-related software. Sofar Elite is no more than space engine, with arcade fighting and some x-games trading. There is nothing special about the game sofar - other than my fond memories of playing Elite of old. If Fronties can keep adding layers (especially content and gameplay) of this quality then it might have a winner.

I for one is not convinced about the current state of Elite or see anything special. And I expect Fronties to raise the bar MUCH more!

indeed it is superb.

So far I have managed to hook 2 people into backing, thanks to endless plugging and forwarding screenshots and videos.

I have another 4 on the hook but not managed to land yet ;)

(mental note need to mail out work email reminding that season pass is withdrawn from sale Tuesday ;)

edit

sorry you are not impressed bolthammmer.

Whilst for sure there is a lot more to come, if you are not won over by the 1:1 model of the milky way, or the flight model, or the "feel" of shooting ships almost as big as big ben, I fear even with the extra content which is coming for version 1.0 you may ultimately not be impressed.

Fingers crossed I am wrong.

I think that's the key thing here.

FD have a great foundation to build upon .. it's what they do with it that will count.

I am not "hooked" yet .. maybe partly from fear of burning out; maybe from fear of it turning out to be pants; who knows .. point for me - I am not testing/playing it atm. :(

Time will tell.

It definitely has the potential to be a really great game. If Frontier can put together most, if not all, of their DDF proposals, stick to their guns and not listen to us lot too much - then...

Yes, ED is a breath of fresh air in many ways. Leading a resurgence in space sims is already a major plus in my book.

Devs brave enough to fund the game outside normal publishing routes, so they can make the game they envision, and an early community of backers that support them while they do it, well that drives it up a notch.

And then they go and open the testing up for an extended period to let us see (and play) as it comes together feature by feature. And as so many point out, we are still in what is essentially an extended alpha, with many more features to come. And FD unashamedly tell us that they'll test it till it's right. In a world where too many games are pushed out too early, this fills me with hope.

The breadth and complexity of the promised consequence driven mechanics and background sim merged with a truly awe-inspiring scale of playable space, with high-levels of fidelity to real science just makes it even better. And no end-game, so the game need never end.

And when I get that cynical pessimism that they won't deliver on the vision FD have promised, I remind myself that the original Elite changed and challenged existing paradigms, and there's no reason to believe they can't do it again.

I hope the sense of community is not lost as we move into Beta 1 and beyond, and that people stay patient with the inevitable vocal minorities and whingers that don't buy into the vision, despite having already put their hands in their pockets and bought in (something I fear I will never understand). I hope FD continue to do what they've always said they were doing, and make the game they want to play, cos I sure want to play it too.

But it is! :)

Like?
Elite always has been the mother of all spacesims. Everything that came after has been no more than a lukewarm wannabee. Some were good in their own right, but none came close to the Elite open world experience. At the moment there is nothing in production that will come close either.

There is nothing special about the game sofar

I disagree wholeheartedly. It is a completely different experience from any other of the many spacesims in my collection. It is a dream come true.

Not convinced about the current state? Do you say ED is lacking for where it is at in this beta phase? Are you joking? There is no bar to raise. As far as quality, execution and planned content are concerned the bar is already incredibly high compared to other spacesims I have played, or compared to the ones that are in development at the moment.

And of course their will be much, much more to come. This is beta after all.

Agree entirely. Its not like other games, this has no beginning or end, it grows as you become more experienced and it offers a challenge to anyone with the patience to enjoy the learning curve required in the early stages of game play.

We have to find a new genre for this game!:D

Must say I feel the same way.

I'd pretty much given up on games, apart from the odd flight sim session or game of Civilisation 4.

I got excited to see the remake of Deus Ex, another classic, and I couldn't get over the rave reviews as the remake bored the pants off me.

Then we had the XCom Enemy Unknown remake and Thief reboot, both of which I found truly awful and again received rave reviews.

Until a week ago I thought it was me, I'd lost the love for gaming.

It makes me absurdly happy to find that there are people out there who still remember how to make a great game.

I had exactly the same feeling and for some reason just couldent connect emotionally to any game. When Star Citizen kickstarter was launched i had great hopes but unfortunatly things got a bit funny over there. ED exceeded my expectations and feels fresh in the gaming industry of today. And then offcourse there is so much still to come :D. Hooray for FD!
