E:D performance when installed on an SSD, is it much better?

Let me start by saying that by no means is my game performance bad by any stretch, but I have a bit of space I reserve on my SSD for a few games and would like to install E:D on there if it could mean a performance boost. Right now with it installed on a conventional HD (7200 rpm) I get some significant hitching when dropping out of supercruise (maybe this is an issue for everyone?) and the sound cuts out for a second or two. My PC has plenty of horsepower to run the game on ultra settings, so what I'd like to know is if there is anyone out there who has moved E:D to an SSD from a traditional platter based drive? If so can you speak to the performance?

There will be no difference in stutter from your mechanical hard drive to your SSD I'm afraid, it's a separate issue.

Just moved mine to an SSD, I notice no discernable difference--not in load times, hyperspace lag or other stutter, or anything, really. It does seem, however, that some users may fall victim to a sort of SSD placebo effect...so if you think it will work, you should try it :)

A chug here, a chug there (rarely happening) - no noticeable stutter anywhere per se, and I'm using a drive that spins half the speed of yours. Doubt it's anything related to loading from disk.

Are you playing open or private group by any chance? I accidently stayed in open when farming missions and found that supercruise becomes a slide show. There is also a couple of seconds delay when you start FSD, but I doubt it is hard drive related. Actually just figured that I do have it installed on SSD, not sure if moving it to the regular harddrive would decrease my performance.

In Open lots of hickups are due networking issues with other players (latency, etc - ED doesn't use super lot of bandwidth, but latency has nothing to do with bandwidth anyhow).

Your hdd speed isn't affecting any part of ED other than the initial load, though an ssd will certainly help your computer's speed in general. Lack of ram will cause more problems for ED if you have less than 4gb... more than that's not going to help you much though (unless you're in the habit of leaving a bunch of background programs running).

A friend of mine mentioned that in Gamma 1.0, there was a noticeable difference. It was what prompted my SSD purchase.

Since Gamma 2, there is no discernible difference. I think one of the Gamma 2 changes caused this.

Only difference I noticed was the initial loading of the actual game and save file. But that's completely anecdotal and I never actually measured it.

If anything you'll notice the game loading up quicker. In-game most stuff will be running from memory... AFAIK there is at least a minimal use of disk for logging.

Im running windows and ED from a usb 2.0 hdd without problem. This game is exceedingly friendly i. Terms of load times and stuff.
