I am an Elite player since 1984.
I am very active on your forums,and a real white knight defending the game I love the most of all : Elite Dangerous!
I have (had) 4500 followers on Twitter and tweet regularly about Elite and Frontier but now my account got suspended permanently due to E:D poetry day :(

I explained Twitter that it’s about a video game about shooting aliens,the “I will come to kill you” was not directed to a person but to aliens ingame....
But they dont believe me and send another mail:

Please help,I dont want to lose my 4500 followers,almost all CMDR’s who follow me.
I dont want to lose them,could you please send a mail to Twitter to explain Elite Dangerous is just a game and I didnt have bad intentions?

I am baffled by the naivety of some people.
Are you completely unaware of hate crimes? unaware of statements that are 100% unacceptable in public?
You should count yourself lucky if being banned from twitter is all that happens. You broke the law, you committed an actual crime and are totally unaware of any wrong doing.

If you don't get visited by some local law agency it will actually be a surprise.
That you don't get that that statement should not be placed in a public forum is sad and you really do sound like a very psychotic and dangerous person to be avoided.

And before it goes further - you can only destroy a players ship in the game, you cannot kill players, so from any perspective, the statement is not even close to valid or in any way something to even say in this forum, it is inaccurate, incorrect and is still uttering threats and therefore illegal and TBH, you need to see someone that can explain this to you in such a way that it is permanently etched into your head.

To post the entire thing in here in giant images shows a child-like naivete that is not healthy.
You should try making such statements in an airport or a police station and wait for the laughs....You obviously have zero idea how wrong it is to say or type that statement.

If you were anywhere near me in public and said that, I would walk away as quickly as I could....you simply do NOT use that phrase unless there is something wrong with you.

Errr...But I never threatened a person,only an alien in a space game.
If you can find the thread on twitter than you’ll see that other people also talked about killing thargoids.
If you find it normal that I get perma banned over this then...I have no words
I am on twitter since 2011 without any problems,but I get punished like this without any means to defend myself.
It’s like battling against an AI thats out of control.

Being entirely honest with you CMDR, I'm baffled how this could be considered a hate crime.

CMDR Tim is clearly talking about made up space aliens in a space game, in the context of many similar posts. It was nothing more than a bit of role - play in an RP context. There's no threat to any individual or group.

I would suggest that your only feasible course of action would be to get Frontier, in the form of their Twitter account manager, to intervene with Twitter and explain that this was all in response to their mistake of introducing that topic in the original tweet.

Hopefully the people at Twitter would allow the simple deletion of the offending tweet (no doubt done already) and replacing your permanent ban with a temporary suspension.

Let's face it, those were public posts and so people not aware of the context might conceivably take the threat to kill literally.

Actually it's not as stupid as you might think, and he's making a valid point.

I know this as I have had police called upon me over a couple statements I've made... I won't give too many details but I will tell you I was threatening to kill myself in a very public domain. The police were called to stop me acting on it. I'm currently seeking treatment.

What you have to understand is that Twitter is a public place. You don't so much as have to log in to simply read every conversation on the site, and there lies the problem.

The words could easily be interpreted as a threat against a real person, especially if the reader who proceeds to report it is unaware of the game, which is quite likely on an open site such as Twitter.

Now, does the OP have reason to appeal? Yes he does.

But ultimately, every post he makes is not his property. It belongs to Twitter.

Honestly? I do understand and even respect why Twitter has taken this action.

"It's just a video game."

Prove it. OP can't, so Twitter made a safe decision and removed a potential threat.

I wouldn't give the OP much hope. All I can say is that in future he remembers when the platform he speaks on is freely availble for literally everyone with a net connection to read.

If I overhead the words "I'm going to kill you" uttered by someone randomly in public, I would be a bit worried.

Sure, it could be a joke... But it could also be sincere.

We live in an extremely dangerous world. People get killed daily, usually for no reason other than they exist.

Who's to say you're alive today, thanks only to the precautions taken by an authority several counties away who locked up a public threat before it could reach you? Or your children for that matter?

You'll never know if your kid's life has been saved by precaution hundreds of miles away, and that's exactly why it needs to continue. Else we could all be dead.

There has to be control at some point, else we have anarchism.

If talking about killing Thargoids gets someone banned from Twitter, how do games that are 100% about killing virtual people (like Call of Duty) use social media at all?

That said, these tweets could be interpreted a couple of different ways...

Depending where you are in the world, just saying you're going to kill someone would likely not even result in a misdemeanor. Honestly, I wish there was a a serious fine for saying such a thing, but most times freedom of speech trumps decency.
