E3 Announcement Coming up?

Kerrash is a git... He know's something and isn't telling... (He's at FD towers at the moment)...

Something's going to be announced at E3 and he's dead excited about it... mind you he gets excited about a single pixel change in the HUD!

So... what do you think (or wish) the announcement will be?

I rather hope for expanded stations, in terms of types and construction progress as well as the cities in space concept art we saw some time ago becoming a reality....

Yeah my bets are on the X-Box version being the basis of their E3 talks. I would be pleasantly surprised if it was something else, but I doubt it.

if it's not an anaconda paint job.... Pain.... Horrible Pain. Elite's entrails will become it's extrails. I will ri....argh. Pain. Lots of Pain.

They should announce the 1.4 update or Expansion for PC. We already know about the new Coaster Tycoon game and the Xbox One version won't have anything new.

The latest newsletter had literally nothing about new content or updates.

Kerrash being excited means nothing. He's squeeeeeeeeeeeees way to much. that being said i don't think he would get over excited liked that about an xbox release, so maybe something cool.

Well you hope would be nice to see. I've said it before, David Braben said the challenge of PG is to do it right so things don't look "samey". Space stations in ED are just samey as can be. Outposts are better. FD needs to knock some PG stuff together to vary the interiors- and maybe some exterior bits as well. Colors, different lighting schemes, local text, more or fewer landing pads with sections of greenspace other than just the shiny white alternative to the industrial stations.

Samey, very samey. Let's see the power of PG done right and see more variety in stations. I'm really tired of looking at the landing pads and seeing the exact same grate lifted and crates in every station every landing.

Somehow though, methinks it will be Xbox focused and include Arena gameplay. Maybe some minor point update stuff like a few new ships. 2015 is focused on multiplayer, new platforms to generate sales and minor point updates outside those missions. Evochron Mercenary, SC both have arenas and XBox1 players will want that type of low-risk play- a lot of PC players want it so consensual PvP without risking your main character's wealth and rep. My guess is 2016 will be much more interesting with accelerated pace due to more money to spend on development from Steam, Xbox, Mac and eventually PS4 sales.

If I'm wrong I will be pleasantly surprised, but it's just a game so I'm not getting all giddy about anything to do with it, even though I'm a fan and hope for years of ongoing movement towards DDA and Kickstarter goals.

I really hope and actually think it will be a sneak peek at the first expansion...

Personally, I would argue that either showing off some of the work they have made on avatar play, walking around your ship etc, or planetary landings is logical at this stage. We are 6 months past release. Expansions at the one year point before christmas.... Probably also bundled with the main game*..

Just makes sense.

I am sure Frontier have looked at Chris Roberts and his hype machine (I am a star citizen backer so no hating), and hopefully have learned a few lessons whilst still making sure they do not promise something they can't keep.

*What would people think if they sold game and expansion bundles at the cost of the original game?

They also said that for the most part stations are built using standard modules probably by the same company. I think the lack of variety here has less to do with their ability to do it, and more to do with many other things being a higher priority to get live. While it may look nice to see a different station style, it doesn't affect gameplay like most of the other things getting attention.

No. Dont care what SC has or why they have it ...their development process has gone completely different from ED and so their game is going to be shaped and connected differently. 1 character. Consent for pvp is made when you choose your game mode already.. It's a system that is already too lax in allowing you to use the same cmdr in different modes. I'm sure FD has done research into what kind of xbox player is likely to buy ED and play it and I doubt it needs to be less "risky" than the game already is. If anything it will need improved risk to mitigate the reputation of just grinding. Smart difficult game is better than easy grind or a game where your actions dont matter because "we dont want to punish the player". This is appreciated in xbox as it is in pc. We're not talking nintendo wii here.

As an aside, it would be nice to see something implemented in the ED universe that addresses how the population handles sports/games in the future. One could imagine something similar to airplane races but with multiple ships (3d star wars pod racing but with your own ship). These would be like USS's but that you opt into via a mission at a station nearby. Same for like a gladiator game in Empire space. You fight npc waves in a controlled area in a system in normal space and if you win you move up the ladder to face other winners ...maybe even players if they're around. For credits and fame and just quick distractions. Destruction while participating in a game could be completely covered by the organizers. I could see this being a goto feature for a quick round on the xbox for some players rather than jump into real wars / trading etc. Not a physical arena but a seamless incorporation of why someone would want to play in one.
