EA and the Future

What do you folks think about the recent developments with this despised publisher?

Their stock price and their financial forecasts are bad. No longer rated a Buy, or a Hold, it has sunk to a Sell recommendation. Insider reports show a literal looting of the company value as highest ranked individuals are dumping their shares.
[haha]

We need not wonder how this happened. The writing was on the wall for the last 5 years. To me, the biggest mystery is how they managed to stay alive so long. Reportedly, Disney may yank the Star Wars liscence, and that's long overdue.

Maybe their main vulnerability was the recognition that they had switched from Games Publishing to the casino business by regulators abroad. And the restrictions slaughtered their earnings model. Good riddance, I say.

Edit:
OK, WOW! As this was being posted, the share price nosedived from $95 to $75 upon the announcement of disappointing Battlefield V sales. I guess all the CEOs and CFOs and Exec VPs had that info first.
And that now raises the unwelcome spectre of an FDC investigation into insider trading.

I agree completely. Let evolution work it out.

It's been a long journey for EA since Deluxe Paint on the Amiga. I'd decry their lack of innovation, relying on the same franchises year after year.

I just can't get my head around how bad they miss the potential of Star Wars with MP centric battlefront crap. Graphically the Battlefront games are stunning, it's like being IN a Star Wars film, sounds sights all spot on, but then the gameplay is just run and gun. The SP of BF2 was ok, but far too short and plagued with loading and stuttering issues for me and many others. I pray that someone has the brains to release games based on the films where we can play as minor characters and expereince the FILMS from a different perspective and be IN the films. Imagine being a Rebel trooper desperatly trying to buy Leia the time to get the message into R2 and then holding back the Stormtroopers so that R2 and C3PO can get in the escape pod (with the two of the them crossing in front of your view straight from the film!). Or one of the other Pilots attacking the death star and seeing Luke do his attack run and spotting the Falcon swooping in to help out....I could go on. I would almost literally kill for games that let me do that!! But no, all we get is the greedy lowest common denominator of MP nonsense time and time again. :( For that alone EA need to burn in hell! Too many good dev teams, ruined by complete numpties in charge.

They'll close Bioware after Anthem comes off the hype curve and keep releasing shooter games on a regular schedule, so the future is set to be much the same as past and present.

The most interesting question long term for me is, how this will affect the library of software and IPs (even though EA seem to be cool with some of the very old titles being considered abandonware).
Entities like EA don't just disappear. But perhaps the name will.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
And supposedly Disney is 'happy' with them, according to Jim Sterling today.

Huh.

:)

Disney have done nothing but publicly insulted fandom and made garbage movies. How could they criticize EA.
My prediction - more studios are on a chopping block. Bioware?

Come on now, Rogue One was enjoyable.

I doubt Bioware is on the chopping block, what with the Dragon Age IV hype train they're building.

Share price is still nearly 4 times what it was 5 years ago. I very much doubt they are endangered of going anywhere, anytime soon.

But I might buy some shares in them, given that Anthem will probably get them back up to somewhere above one dollar.

Rogue One was mostly enjoyable because of how terrible the rest of the movies were. But I would have to agree, it's probably the best of the Disney SW movies.
