Eagle UI Panels Too

Eagle UI Panels Too Forward

I noticed in the Eagle that the left and right UI panels pop up before I want them to, when turning head left or right. The other ships I've tried so far (Sidewinder, Viper III, Cobra III, Vulture) don't have this issue.

P.S. I accidentally posted this before I was ready and can't change how the title shows up, which is almost as bad as the Eagle UI issue.

The very worst culprit is the SRV, like OP my preferred way is headlook, so when driving I lock the central panel up - course, it means can't do much of anything else whilst it's up, but least I can glance left and right whilst driving.
The AspX has the best implementation for me, I have to look left and slightly down before the screen will pop up.

You can keep you Mode Switches/UI Focus button pressed down and look around without them poping up. I got that on one of my hotas buttons

The automatic panels are one of the coolest things about VR, I'd hate to have to disable them. I've never flown an Eagle, but I'm assuming the problem is the canopy actually allows you to see to the left and right and the panels get in the way? It would suck to have to disable it just for that ship.

I have mine set up to be transparent enough to see through and I don't have to worry about any of my combat bindings being the same as my UI bindings.

Yeah, coming up when trying to look out the windows.

I didn't conduct a systematic test or anything, but they seem to open at a lesser angle than in other ships.

That could be. Since I finally got into beta and finally started being social I decided to set the comm panel to open up automatically and it seems to be much more sensitive than the others.

Would be nice to be able to customize this.

The most annoying thing about VR was that the panels keep popping up whenever I look out the window, or even my cockpit. Thankfully, there's an option to disable it. :p

That having been said, this game badly needs HUD customization options, including panel placement. However, Frontier has said in the past that doing so is non-trivial, so I doubt we'll be seeing this anytime soon.

the placement of the panels of the eagle has improved in 2.3 beta (returned to 2.1 locations). unfortunately the Condor and the SRV are still way to high up.

If you guys aren't using Ctrl+Shift+G to disable your HUD from time to time you're doing it wrong. I use JoyToKey so I can bind a specific button on my Warthog throttle. When I hit that (one of the spring switches upper/mid area) it toggles the HUD from on to off. Everything is still there and works you just can't see it. In fact if you look left/right/down where the panels should appear you'll heard the sound effect for them to open you just don't see it.

Why do this - next time you're flying around and see something pretty, a rare occurrence I know, toggle the HUD off and marvel at how beautiful everything is. It's like being outside and turning off any light pollution so you get a clearer view of the night sky, but the effect in Elite in VR is incredible. I probably fly 20-30% of my time with HUD off, especially every time I jump into Witch Space, that's sweet for sure.

It's like this I think:

Don't auto popup when looking - have a ui focus key and a direction key to choose panel. (like I have it)

Have it auto popup.

Use a separate key or voice-command for each panel on/off.

What I would like: Hold UI Focus key and look for auto popup (this is not possible)
