Newcomer / Intro Early Steam account (hence stand-alone launcher) - upgrade?

I was given, as a gift, an Elite Dangerous game/account through Steam. This was many years ago before it was "locked" to the Steam launcher, and so I am able to log in through the normal FDev game launcher.

However, it is only a Horizons/base game account. It doesn't have Odyssey, so I can't have fleet carrier on-foot facilities like Vista Genomics.

I want to upgrade to Odyssey, but if I do it through Steam, will that make me unable to load the game via the normal launcher?

Hmm, I can buy "Elite Dangerous Deluxe Edition" through the Frontier Store but that includes the base game - would installing that that delete my CMDR and achievements / ships / credits to date? How do I just upgrade?

What products are shown in the "My Downloadable Products" section of the Frontier store for that store account?

It may be that all that is required is to buy the Odyssey DLC from the Frontier store on that store account.

Excellent, it worked! And I did the ground tutorial (fun and easy, this time round) and it put me back where I was with all assets intact straight afterwards.

Brilliant, thank you both.

Couldn't believe how easy this was, I'm not used to it! Especially as I have both "vanilla" and Epic accounts/launchers, as well as this second CMDR bought through Steam (by someone else!).

"You have not purchased any downloadable products yet."

This is for my second CMDR account, on Epic, currently Horizons. Can I buy a Trailblazers upgrade, or do I need to buy the whole game?
