Earning CC These Days

Are people just earning CC points by releasing animals to the wild?
I'm sure a year or two ago, you could earn them by guests using the green recycling bins around your park. Is this no longer the case?

I've recently started playing again and although I earnt most of my CC at the start, I tend to now earn it from trading animals. I end up with a lot of golden babies of some of the harder to find animals in my zoo and I always sell them if they have good genetics, but I try to keep the prices fair. I also release any that there are an abundance of if the genetics are not amazing, which also helps to earn CC.

I think this is only the case in scenario/career mode zoos. Maybe in Challenge mode as well, but I don't play Challenge mode because I like being able to find animals on the market.

Are you sure that’s from the recycle bins? Even with regular bins, the CC increase automatically in this mode. I tested it in the past, and could never notice any increase or any other effect from the recycle bins. Actually, I used recycle bins the other day in the new Twilight scenario and got 0 CC (also no automatic CC increase). I think this was just a myth, which also would make sense, particularly since these bins are more expensive.

I've honestly almost always just released my animals in the wild. I know, I could get greater amounts of CC, but as long as I have enough to get species I want, it don't really bother me much. I'm not invested in the statistics and genetics though, though I try to stick with just green and yellow stats, so it's probably also that I don't go looking for those higher CC priced animals that have nearly 100 stats.

I actually don't need to generate CC anymore because I have so much. BUT I realease animals to the Wild if there are a lot in the market of said animal, if not I trade them for the price Planet Zoo suggests, because I'm happy to help all the people who have not as much CC to get a few cheap but good animals. Oh... and I realease all my crap animals to the wild as well...
Since my Zoo has so much offspring I never have issues if I need to buy a more expensive animal in the market.

I pretty much do the same thing as @Siska-Coda. I always list my decent quality animals on the market at the price which the game suggests. I have way more CC now than I could ever spend, but I want to help the community by making animals available. If an animal doesn't sell after the first time or two that I list it, however, I go ahead and release it.

The recycle bins never worked in Franchise mode. It's mentioned in the game help file under "Conservation Credits", as is the distinction between Franchise mode vs. other modes.
To be clear, what the help file mentions as working in non-franchise modes for earning CC is to "Improve your Zoo's conservation rating". Which is generic, but if you also read about the Zoo ratings in the help file, it specifically mentions recycling bins as one of the ways to increase that rating. Ergo, using recycle bins can help earn CC in non-franchise modes. You don't get the CC just for having the bins, you have to use them along with other methods to actually increase the zoo conservation rating.

In the same way that advanced builders don't just use the same piece over and over again, I vary my management strategy to make use of the full range of options that the game gives us. So I do everything from releasing to the wild all the way up to selling for 10,000 cc.

In fairness, I also buy a ton of animals at 10,000 cc, so I've got to have some way of financing all those expensive purchases that I'm getting from others!

I have over 100k CC which I've accumulated from the release of the game. I usually list my animals on the market, but I go below the asking price because I like to think I'm helping other players by selling gold rated animals cheaper. I wish we would have direct trading, like a little market system inside the trading center where players could either buy/sell animals for CC or exchange animal for animal.

That is actually a great idea. I would love that as well!
