Earning credits for colonisation

Greetings commanders,

I would really like to make some credits so I can build my own little station or settlement in a puppis sector but I have a feeling, that my 3,4 billions aren't enough.
It "took" me years of normal playing (not really grinding) to get this much money.
Now I've seen people on YouTube and these forums that have A LOT more credits and there are also these people that have 500.000 merits after one day (rank 1 of my chosen power).
So I was wondering how people are able to get that much money. I never came near that with trading, mining or exobiology.
Please don't get me wrong. I know you should play elite the way that is most fun to you. And right now, this would be making credits for me. So I can achieve my goal.

Sorry if my wall of text is a bit hard to understand. English isn't my first language.

1) Don't believe anything on Youtube, those so called game experts probably play Elite for an hour per week.
2) There is no fast get rich method with the exception of the occasional trade CG.
3) Mining, Trading, Combat all earn decent credits but not the billions per hour some of those muppets advertise.
4) Possibly the best way to make credits at the moment is exobiology.

Lastly and more importantly, regardless of what some of those folks say nobody has a Scooby what Colonisation will require yet.

Exobiology is one of the ways to get the really big bucks, but you need to find planets that have no "first footfall" to get the really big rewards.

(Well, more accurately you get the big rewards if you are the first to scan those plants on that particular planet, but there's no way of knowing if someone else has already scanned them. However, the planet not having a "first footfall" is a guarantee of this because there's no way of not getting that and scan the plants. It is possible for a planet that does have "first footfall" to have unscanned plants, but there's literally no way of knowing if that's the case other than going there, scanning them and turning them in, and only at that point will you know.)

This requires a bit of a commitment, though. You really need to get out there and find those previously undiscovered systems that have planets with lots of bio signals (don't bother with those that have only one or two. Not worth your time, unless you want to be really thorough.) And you need to find quite a few of them. I'd say once you have scanned about 50 or so previously-unscanned plants, that's when it's a good time to come back and turn them in, and get the big bucks.

Another way is trading. You just need to know what to trade and where. You can get surprisingly big earnings this way. Try googling for "Pilots Trade Network" for some tips.

I also hear that xeno combat can be extremely lucrative as well, but I don't have experience on that.

And if there ever is another trading community goal, most definitely participate. Those usually pay really well.

As with anything in Elite though it's different combinations of the variables: Knowledge x Skill x Time. If you've got a gameplay loop that you enjoy, focus on that, and just try to improve, shave time off where you can to pick up the pace, etc.

I'm having fun on the AX frontline, and while I understand there's good money out there in all sorts of fields, but if you are interested in AX combat then certainly AX Combat Zones are a fairly reliable and fun money-maker, and they may not be around in current form for much longer. If I play a couple of hours each night I'll have half a billion in a week, or more depending on Community Goals and system states that allow for extra earnings.

Thanks guys. I just checked out Pilots Trade Network. While a bit slow, the site has really good guides. Unfortunately I don't have discord and I am not very good at playing with others (strangers).
You have some good info already from the commanders above... just keep at it until release... Best of luck to you!
PS I am in the same boat... no worries, we will get there.

Exobiology can be a very big earner but it isn’t a get rich quick scheme and as First Discovery is where the big money is the road to approach probably isn’t going to help.

I explored and sampled out to Colonia then to Sag A* then back to the bubble which got me the bulk of 16 billion credits from exobiology. However it took me months, but I wasn’t in any sort of rush, and I had a Fleet Carrier with me which made things straitforward though selling the exobiology to my carrier will have cut into my earnings.

I’d suggest you try different money makers whether it’s trade, AX combat or Exobiology etc but if you find you don’t really enjoy it, stop and go back to the things you do. Purely chasing credits, even for a goal you really want to achieve, by doing something you don’t enjoy will just be soul destroying after a while.

I know it’s an obvious message but it’s one that often gets forgotten across the various websites, channels and guides you come across.

I made some quite big money doing Exobiology but only because I was so far out and it made sense to carry on whilst travelling back to the Bubble - it’s highly unlikely I’ll ever bother again as it’s just not something I really enjoy, I think I hit Elite but I’ll never reach Elite I.

In terms of the upcoming Colonisation feature. I’d love to be able to build my own Station but I imagine the sheer volume of hauling required would be enough to put me off, regardless of costs or system availability. We’ll see what FDev show us soon I suppose.

Now that the cat is out of the bag, real estate in Puppis might go thru the roof. Do you think I could just rent a room in your establishment?

Its fine to plan ahead, but def do not get your hopes up regarding colonization and "building your own little place to call home". Not saying you, but so many people have this idea in their head that it will be base building to the point where they get to choose their interior, toilet type, bed designs, and the color of the curtains. I'm being sarcastic, but I'm really, really, not that far off.

Oh no! Now they might have to choose from any one of the many thousands of other stars in the Puppis sector!

One thing I’ve noticed about YouTube over the years is the inflation of credits per hour.

Mining was the example that sticks in mind. They show you can mine a hold full of X commodity in Y time and the extrapolate a Cr/h, ignoring how far you have to travel to off-load that hold full.

Exo around the bubble can be decent. You can use Spanish to plot a route and just scan the recommended high value plants.

I’ve done a few PTN missions for fairly decent Cr/h, but it’s very boring repetitive work.

I have 25 billion in the bank and made most of it by shooting Orthrus at spire sites or doing AX CZs, but that (spires) seems to be a thing of the past now. There is still good money in core mining (I do that right now for Power Pay), I can fill my Mandalay's 112t cargo in about an hour, and some core minerals still sell for 750k+ per tonne, so that's around 80 to 100 million per run, and it's fun and not too boring. That's the two activities I made most of my credits from.

So I was wondering how people are able to get that much money.
stacking pirate massacre missions can make you billions in no time. I make about 700mil per 20 missions set and I usually have to kill just about 150-200 pirates (300 if I do wing missions to share with others), so it takes about 5-8 hours total if you take your time stacking well paying missions in a system you have full allied status with all factions. Gliese 868 is a popular system for such activity 😁

Not a huge "massacre mission" guy, but good to know, Thx!

An relatively low risk method for huge easy credits has been AX passenger rescue missions.

Unfortunately AX war is winding down so this method is disappearing.

There is only one Titan left, so not many "Thargoid Invasion" systems around. And because they are popular they are maxed-out-done by Saturday.

1. Go to https://www.spansh.co.uk/plotter
2. Under Route Planners, select Expressway To Exomastery
3. Enter start system, end system, jump range etc, and generate a list
4. If you log in (or register and log in) it saves the list
5. work through the list and you should make a few billion.
6. Have fun, but remember, nothing worth doing is easy.
