Earning Karma points in Elite Dangerous

Hi there,

as I just finished a mission called "How to earn money and save people", I was wondering, even if it sounds crazy, if there is something in the game like Karma.

Here's the story:

Before the above mentioned mission I accepted a combat mission in the Dahan system. After completion they told me how much of a nice guy I am "taking lives for credits". No doubt this kinda made me feel bad about the done deed.
So I accepted the "save people" mission to cleanse my concience(?). The objective was to get 8 tons of grain to BD+49 blahblah (you know the system just "below" Morgor). My Viper was, at that time fully rigged for combat and was only able to jump 6 ly. I got the mission in I Bootis so you can imagine that was quite a distance to travel.
When I finally arrived at Morgor I had to realise that BD+(insert random number here) was 6.35 ly away. At first, I was about to abandon the mission and eject all cargo into space.
Then it occured to me if I could sell some equipment, I might just be able to make the jump and bring the desperatly needed food to where it should be. I then docked at the nearest starport selling most of my guns and equipment with tears in my eyes(they were not easy to come by) until the stats said "Jump distance fully laden: 6.36 ly"
This is how I saved all these people.

Now, where are my Karma points? :)

What a good idea!

I want a Gimbaled Karma Gun so I can splatter Karma to all who deserve it.
Take that good guy it adds to your rep. :D

Yes. Reputation. Do nice things for people you are considered friendly, do bad things and people might spit on you if they see you in the street.

Reputations

Reputations are numerical values representing the consequences of particular styles of play
Reputations can go up and down, based on commander actions
Some reputations can have negative values
Reputation values are hidden to the player; they just experience the effects on NPC behaviours
Reputations can affect the following NPC behaviours in either a good or bad way (for the player):

Humanity

Increased by: successfully performing humanitarian missions and events
Decreased by: successfully performing opportunistic missions and events that ran counter to a humanitarian effort

Its not quite fully implemented yet though.

I've only so far completed one combat mission. I'm assuming that even if it is a combat mission and it helps a suppressed people it shouldn't be considered an opportunistic deed. Even simple trading can be more opportunistic than killing a dictators troops imo.

Trading isnt a negative against humanity. Unless its stolen or illegal maybe.

Doing negative deeds against someone gets a negative rep.

What you also got to remember is killing a evil dictator may make you the 'good guy', but that all depends on what side you are on. Doing good for someone could be doing bad for someone else who is against that someone.

None of this is really in full effect in the beta yet though.
