Earth does not rotate about it’s axis?

I always thought that the planets, especially Earth rotated about it’s axis as well as orbiting Sol.
And also, that the Earth’s rotation in ED is synchronized with the real time of day. But I just flew to Earth and the Americas was in sun light while Asia was in darkness. And in reality it’s afternoon in Sourheast Asia.

This is not the first time I’ve noticed this. Seems like every time I visit Earth no matter what time of day it actually is, the Americas are always in the sun.

I don't know if it does in ED, but yed it does, It's what creates the EMF that protects Earth from the Sun's more deadlier rays. Earth would be in worse shape then Mars, if it didn't. The sun would literally cook Earth.

Earth does rotate in Elite Dangerous, but you are correct that it is out of sync with UTC. I wish that would be corrected, maybe with a higher quality map? Maybe that comes with the new planet-tech from odyssey (although Earth won't be landable then, of course).

That you see the same continents in the sun all the time is probably because you play at the same time of day every time.

Correct. Earth's rotation is not in sync with present day / UTC time. It appears that, sometime in the past thousand years, "Galactic Standard Time" was moved from Greenwich to somewhere around UTC-5, American East coast / Colombia time..

It's only reasonable that the calendar has completely changed. After all, 3306 was a leap year. It wouldn't be a leap year in the Gregorian calendar, 3304 and 3308 would be.

OOC, I think there might be two possible explanations.

  • It's a bug.
  • It was done deliberately, so that people who play the game at night could visit Earth still see their homeland lit up in daylight.

Actually the last time I checked was when I was playing at night, my time. And that made sense for the Americas to be in daylight, so at the time I didn’t think much about it.

Even worse, the Earth bobblehead RESETS AFTER EVERY JUMP! Damn annoying, you'll spend most of the time looking at the same part of the planet! :D

Please, this is a joke. Also, the reset is true for all planet bobbleheads, but, naturally, it is most noticeable with Earth. But not at all a real problem, just saying.

What have you got against Australia? ;)

P.S. Saturn reset is much worse in my not even slightly pretending to be humble opinion. :)

I could be wrong here but I was sure it was correct in the past (I mean years ago). I've been to earth a few times in the last 6 months, the latest today at around 15:00 UTC. And on every occasion the UK has been in the dark.

I remember MalicVR noticing that after a recent update the well known Thargoid wreck with the mountain behind and a gas giant with rings behind that was wrong. The moon is tidally locked so never changes, but seems like it's been turned 90 degrees.

I wonder if something is off with the galaxy generation at the moment?
