Astronomy / Space Earth-like planet in the habitable zone - IN ALPHA CENTAURI

interesting link!

btw. - i don't think FDEV are going to add new findings to the already explored parts of the galaxy. at least they didn't with the last couple ones.

The still nameless planet orbits Proxima Centauri in the Alpha Centauri system, so right next door to us! It is believed to be earth like and orbit within the habitable zone. If true, this is big news. Really big. Frontier is going to need to add this planet to the game, obviously. :)

Very interesting news! I love your avatar by the way. Wish I'd thought of it first :)

In 1982, the role-playing game "Traveller" had the planet around Alpha Centauri - named Prometheus, it had 50% surface water coverage (hydrographics), a diameter of ~7000 miles (Earth is about 8000 miles) and a standard oxygen/nitrogen mix atmosphere albeit slightly denser than Earth's at sea level.

Over 30 years ago, and pretty much spot on!

They don't need to add the planet, it's already in the game: Eden. If I remember correctly, it was already included in FE2 (as a water planet, now in ED as a metallic world with water atmosphere).

Announcement due tomorrow (Wednesday 24th August). I'm looking forward to it, for some reason! [yesnod]

The frightening thing is how close it is to what was discovered.

An artifact in the data most likely Its a triple star system

The Goldilocks zone this apparent planet is supposedly located would not be very golden. Red dwarf stars are somewhat unstable , and tend to throw solar flares ...lol , EDEN would be more like hell !

Let's hope it's not populated. The inhabitants will freak out if 1000 'unknown probes' show up in 20-30 years :D

Remember Hawkin idea about the interstellar solar probe fleet? I think, it's time to take it seriously. The journey will be going to take a lot of time, but it's still can be done, within terms of humanly acceptable time frame.
