Earth-like worlds are like buses.

I don’t know what’s more remarkable: the fact that after more than 2000 hrs of gameplay and a fair amount of exploration I was yet to put my name on an Earth-like world, or that when I finally did it was a double! I was on my way back from the roof of the galaxy to Sag A when I came across these two:

Needless to say, my excitement was somewhat lost on my immediate family and friends.

It got me wondering though, how many earth-likes have you found in roughly how many hours of play? Is 3 or more in a system absolutely unheard of?

My previous poor form was probably my fault – I have a tendency to pick an area to explore and motor my way to it, so I’ve undoubtedly overlooked countless earth-likes on my travels. I'm kind of glad it happened this way though.

A few other shots from the trip - it's nice "up" there.

I've only found 5 or 6 in all my time playing, though to be fair exploration is a sideline for me. I found two in consecutive jumps, the next I found was hundreds of jumps later.

Like you said....buses

Been out exploring myself 31 weeks worth, in the wet end of the galaxy. Not so many ELW’s, but loads of Water worlds. Tune in to my ongoing threads for screen shots and some light-hearted narrative.

Yes, mine was only a quick trip but I found quite a few Water Worlds, and an Ammonia planet. Lots of black holes - I fell into one for the first time while using the FSS.

I have found systems with double ELW, ELW+double WW, etc.
But I've never seen an ELW as a satellite of other planet! Wow!

I think it's reasonable to assume another ELW exists in reality. It would be unreasonable to dismiss it casually. If nothing else, perhaps a world that could sustain human life, even if it didn't look like Earth at all.

I've read in a scientific article that scientists expect that the milkyway got billions of ELW. I calculated the odds and these are almost in line to the total numbers of ELW discovered by the Elite community

It makes you wonder whether systems like this exist in reality. Imagine how different our outlook would be if we existed within a system with that many habitable worlds, and they all harboured life.
It's not completely impossible that Venus, Earth, and Mars were all inhabitable at the same time in the distant past.

I've got quite a few first discoveries of systems with earthlikes. I find that most seem to have one earthlike and one or two waterworlds, but I also found a system with two earthlike worlds and a waterworld. However, I wasn't bookmarking interesting finds at that point so I've no idea where that is.

I also find that neutron stars seem to have earthlike worlds around them more often than other stars, which always struck me as odd. But I usually fully scan neutron systems anyway, so that may explain that.

An earthlike moon, though, that's a lot more rare. And an earthlike moon which isn't orbiting a gas giant - now that is something truly uncommon.

Good work cmdr!

If you upload to EDSM you can find them.
That's not quite true. EDSM shows if you're the first person to discover the object and submit to EDSM; it doesn't show the game's own record, and can't take into account objects discovered by people not using EDSM.

Although, if you're more than a few thousand ly from civilisation, those two things are almost always the same.
