Newcomer / Intro Easier Ground Missions?

Ok so I'm in Colonia, and my combat, trading and exploration status is all Elite.

However, I am just learning how to do ground missions. Thing is, most if not all of the missions on offer at stations are like threat level 7 or 8. Nice and red all the way. What I would like are some easier missions so that I can learn the ropes, so to speak, and maybe also pick up some on-foot mats in order to upgrade my gear.

So is it that the missions are more dificult because the system conflates my space combat abilities with my presumed ground combat abilities? Or is it that I am simply unlucky today, or looking in the wrong place?

Anyone any ideas, please? Tia.

It's random as far as I know. Try some of the mission givers that stand around the station, they might have some easier stuff.

Also, look specifically for delivery missions that have you take something to a settlement and drop it off.

Be aware that "Threat Level" isn't very accurate in terms of how hard the mission will be. Learn the stealth techniques and most missions become easy anyway.

In addition to delivery missions, you can also try wreckage and crash site retrieval missions. These may, sometimes, be scav infested so watch out for that.

You can also pick up lots of mats from power-on mission settlements - however, that comes with a caveat; it seems FDev have implemented a change as to which settlements have gear in lockers and data on data points. Only those in power owned systems yield such stuff.

I'm not sure if this was an intentional change or some bugged effort.

To up your mercenary (i.e. ground combat) rank, the quickest way to do so is to get involved in ground conflict zone combat. At first, this is not for the faint hearted but running the tutorial will give you a start. Then, I would firstly try some "low" intensity ground conflict zones.

Look for the one or 2 systems in infrastructure failure and take a power up mission. They are very good to learn the on foot aspects make sure you are in a maverick suit as you have to cut the door open.
Just looked in Inara go to Asura and when you bring it up in Galaxy map to plot it make sure it says it is in infrastructure failure. Also equip a ship with guided missiles for the scavengers its fun to take them out from above. I usually leave one or 2 of them and practice taking them out from the ground.

Excellent!

Sorry to be a pain on this, but I have tried to find systems in infrastructure failure on Inara and I am not sure which functions to use to do that. Thanks for giving me the tip about Asura but I also need to learn how to do it for myself! :D

Also, I can't see how to see if it's in infrastructure failure. There is no option that I can find that allows me to toggle tht indicator on or off. Currently it looks like all is fine and dandy there!

What path do I need to follow through the website in order to find the damaged/faiure systems? Inara is a great site but I am sure I haen't scratched the surface of what it can do :D Cheers

[Edit]: Found how to discover 'infrastructure failure' in Inara. But it still does not show as such on the Galaxy map.

In order to find Infrastructure Failure systems, go here: https://inara.cz/elite/nearest-starsystems/

Click on 'Controlling Faction State' near the bottom, and select Infrastructure Failure. Make sure to update with the solar system you want to be the area you want the nearest system hits to that fill the criteria you have selected.

A reliable way to find systems in infrastructure failure is to use the filters in the galaxy map. Inara is only updated by CMDRs running reporting programs, like EDMC, that are set to share system data with the Elite Dangerous Data Network. Colonia is pretty small, so if any of the factions in the 50-odd systems are in that state, you'll find them quickly. However, I believe the galaxy map only shows controlling faction states.

That's what I mean; the 'infrastructure failure' does not appear to be an available filter in the Galaxy map! Unless of couse it's called something else, and I am even further behind the curve than I thought ;)

[Edit]: I see it says 'infrastructure failure' on the system info for Paeligni, which is the next-nearest system in that state on Inara from Colonia other than Asura. Asura is now in 'Boom' so I think the Inara data must be out of date; as you say, if it's updated by EDMC then that's likely why it's out of date if no-one has visited there recently :D

Minor factions in infrastructure failure near colonia are Tir, Alberta, Asura, and Carcosa. They don't change often out there those are like the same ones I was going to 2 months ago. The only one that was showing controlling faction was Asura so if it is in Boom now then probably will not have the on foot support missions.

That is how you search for them and you can hit that controlling faction button to separate out. Also that is why I mentioned above to verify the state in Galaxy map simply by bringing that system up so you don't waste your time. Its a damn shame what is happening out there with no loot and just lack of gameplay which is why I left but good luck I hope they fix it soon as those power up missions were great for collecting the on foot items needed for engineering. You will have to actually enter the station on foot and toggle the material awards in the mission list to start collecting items that way.

Apart from Asura, there don't appear to be any systems in Colonia whose controlling faction is in infrastructure failure. Colonia Citizens Network is in the state in Tir, but it only has one station there. You may or may not be able to pick up restore missions there.

Righto. Thanks for all your help, it is really appreciated :) Y'know what, if I can't find what I'm after in Colonia, I might go back to the Bubble just tp upgrade my suits, then head back to Colonia once more once I've done that. It'll only cost me time and Tritium! ;)

You should also be aware that settlements not covered by a PP region do not make mats atm.
Thanks for the heads-up. I don't mind too much; I can always use the quiet areas just to practise actualy handling the interface. On-foot FPS perspectives have never been my strong point :D
