Newcomer / Intro Easiest Way to get an Unknown Artefact?

The aliens seem to like UAs and I'd like to see them. I just googled how to find a UA and the official page suggests finding strong signal sources and then winging up to fight wings of anacondas and T9s... seriously?!

Any practical way for casual players? Preferably one that doesn't involve me having to use an SRV, fight wings of anacondas or generally anything too difficult. I only want one for alien bait.

Yeah I wasted several hours looking round the planet in the video above and there is no crashed ship at those coordinates on that planet! It drove me crazy, still at least I learnt how to navigate using coordinates, but it has strengthened my hatred of anything relating to planet surfaces. Instead I found one in space in an USS as above, far nicer and faster than messing around on planets. I was so excited at finding it I forgot to brake after entering the instance and crashed into the UA, smashing it into Unknown Fragments. Quickly found another and then after just 10 minutes hopping around was hyperdicted. Worth all the effort, thanks for the help.

Oh I don't have Palin yet so I just carried it in a normal rack and watched as my ship slowly dissolved, luckily I was hyperdicted before things got too bad.

Just out of interest, has anyone tried ejecting their UA when your systems come back online?

Oh did I get Michael Palin, ex Python, mixed up with the name of the Engineer who gives you uncorruptable racks to carry the UAs in? Anyway, the engineer that does that and requires you to travel 5000LY away to gain an invite. Him.

No you are right, it is Professor Palin who makes his home in the Maia system.

It's been tried, and many other experiments besides. Sciencing in Elite can be a very engaging pastime, if you're interested in joining the discussion about aliens and other mysteries, check out the first few posts in THIS THREAD to help bring yourself up to speed - but beware, its A LOT to read!

Good luck out there!
