Newcomer / Intro Easy 900K CR - Community Goal - Restoring Order in Arque

EDIT 24/08/16 9.58 BST. This CG is now complete, so the following tip will no longer work.

Until next time Commanders

ORIGINAL POST
Greetings Commanders
Making cash can be a bit tricky at the start, so here's a little boost. NOTE, you will only be able to do this during the next 2 days.

You can get 900,000CR by:

  • Sign up to the "Restoring Order in Arque" community goal (cg) via Mission board
  • Travel to the Arque system
  • Dock at Austen Town Station (sets your respawn to this station in case you die)
  • (Consider playing in Solo mode as some unsavoury players tend to gank players at CGs)
  • Shoot and KILL (thanks Chris Simon) 1 WANTED ship (there is a low res at Arque 2 gas giant)
  • Fly to the Austen Town Station in the Arque system and cash in the bounty.

EDIT

  • You should be able to do this in a Viper (I wouldn't recommend a trading ship (Hauler) or Sidewinder)
  • The safest way is to fire on a wanted ship the police are already attacking
  • Watch out for other ships accidentally ramming you (rare, but it is can happen) - might be best to have 4 pips to SYS, and 2 to weapons
  • Be aware of what is going on around you - don't crash into asteroids and don't accidentally fire on a non-wanted ship (sometimes they pass right in front on your line of sight!)
  • DON'T take any cargo! in your inventory (mats and data are ok)

The goal is currently at tier 9 and looks like it will hit tier 10 by the time it ends, so the 1 ship kill payout may increase to 1mil.

Hope this helps

As this is a newcomer section, I'd like to correct one of your points - Shoot and KILL 1 wanted ship
Just to be sure. :)

Anyway, nice of you to mention it, here. Rep incoming.

You might want to add that scumbags tend to congregate at CGs so good idea to dock locally before going there just in case you meet one. That way a re-buy does not send you all the way back to where you started from.

Good point. Also it's a good idea to play in solo. Amended

I play solo. So the wanted ship are all AI, right? How tough are they? I am a little tired of trading and exploration so may want to give this a shot. Would a kitted out Vulture work or I should not bother unless I have a Python or something (which I may never have anyway).

50% of my time is spent by combat, nowadays. My ship is lightly modified Courier. (By lightly modified I mean all mods save one are just grade 1)
I don't have any problems with anything up to Deadly Anaconda. Elite Condas and Elite Clippers are a bit of a nuisance. I would probably win but it would cost me a trip to station as I don't use SBCs, so I use cops to help me with those. (Or other pirates in HazRES)
I haven't died for several weeks. Had to run several times from the "ninja wings" (the ship appears alone but once you attack, other two gank you as if they were winged) but other than that, I haven't encountered a ship I couldn't handle.

Yes, they are all AI. I went to the low (intensity) res site at Arque 2 this afternoon and there are winged police ships en masse that you can use to your advantage.

Added to original description

I may give this a shot then. Thank you. I was able to defend myself from AI flying Pythons in my Asp Explorer, sometimes narrowly, so I was thinking about getting a Vulture for this.

Vulture isn't a ship to my taste, but it is good combat ship, I prefer something with more weapons mounts and fit turrets, if you have them set to attack target you can just target lock the ship the police are shooting at then fire once at nothing then all your turrets will engage the targeted ship wherever it goes and they almost never nowadays hit friendlies enough to get you wanted. The trouble is the turret variation of a weapon is the weakest and most expensive.

You may need to take part soon as once this CG reaches the top tier (tier 10) then the CG will be over - maybe in the next 6 to 12 hours.
You can check the progress on any Mission Board, or on your Transactions tab after you've signed up.
As already mentioned by the OP you just need to kill one wanted ship (at the Nav Beacon) to get you into the Top 99% CG bonus for a probable 1 mil Cr bonus.

The Viper MK III can be a good combat ship before moving onto the Vulture.

Also, if the enemy uses chaff, I doubt the turret is very effective (if at all) if you un-target your target. Unless you put in forward fire mode, which is a bit of a faff.

This CG is finishing fast, only a few 100 million to go, so maybe another hour/hour and a half.

Nothing works well if you aren't targeted, but yes chaff severely messes up gimbals and turrets I have never seen it destroy your lock though. If it does happen, careless thumb/target destroyed, a button bound to target highest threat and another to cycle through hostile targets are a good thing just remember to blip the trigger if you do switch targets.

Poor pirates :)

So I did some hunting in my Asp Exp. I've put A6 shields on it, two D gimbaled lasers and some rockets. I destroyed 6 or 7 wanted ships but some bounties are as low as 400CR. They're mostly Cobras and Adders, a few Vipers. I have no idea how much do I need to meet the minimum required for the rewards. It kind of sucks because most of them run away when I scan them. I entered an extraction zone but there were Pythons and other large ships all over so I run away from there quickly.

I think any amount is enough to participate on lowest tier.
Btw. If you target a ship, you can look at your left panel into contacts tab and check their bounty, so you can decide whether it is worth the time or not. ;)

Minimum is more than zero. Sign up for the CG, then hand in the vouchers and they will automatically count. Just remember to sign up for the CG first...

Yes, I did sign up but at the end of the day it said my contributions were not enough, or below the threshold, or something like that. I handed the vouchers to the station specified in the CG description. Oh well, there will be next time. I'll eventually get the hang of it. This CG just happened to be only couple of jumps from my current location. I'll keep an eye on future CGs to sign up early.

I don't know if anyone is still reading this, but I just want to note that it's well worth going on past just getting into the 99%. It didn't take me too long to make around 370K in bounties (which you get to keep btw) and that put me in the 50% bracket. I just checked .... $10+M!!

I'm flying a vulture, which I like for combat as it has excellent maneuverability.
