ECM modules and counters

I know we have some, but how about spicing things up.

Currently we have ECM that you honk and stuff happens. And that's it.

How about have ECM as a passive bonus, make locking on with missiles very slow.
These are stackable, for more effect, with diminishing returns.
Charging an ECM burst disables the passive bonus(for all ECM fitted), for a short time during and after the burst.

Then why not add a Targeting Computer utility to the game? This counters ECM, but has no effect if the target doesn't have ECM (so no turbo lock).
They stack, to become more effective Vs ECM, again with diminishing returns.

Now, if you want a torpedo bomber, you're going to need to sacrifice some shield boosters to compensate...?

Not thought it through too much yet.
But gives the ECM modules a bit of a buff to make them more viable.

Yes? No?

Could be interesting but would require FD to rethink the outfitting of ships as the number of module slots would need to increase.

I'm already frustrated equipping a Vulture the way I want. It can take 2 big weapons and a shield with A power and distro and then it's done. Forget stacking a bunch of other modules on top.

Might work in the Anaconda-class ships.

They would both be utility slots, not internal modules.
It's basically something else to install in "spare" utility slots, that would otherwise just be plugged up with shield boosters.
Which is, IMHO, a better solution than just nerfing shield boosters.

But like I said, I haven't thought it through. :p

I don't think stacking ECM should be a thing, but I agree that ECM needs to be more desirable than it currently is. Maybe an ECM burst could disrupt sensor readings on your ship for a short period of time, making you an unresolved contact or scrambling the lead indicator of an enemy. Or since it is infinite maybe a shorter duration chaff effect.
