ECM

I looked in the manual ( a strange idea for many people I know)

I does not say how the ECM works, If I activate it with a trigger I can see it working via the scanner, But is it also automatic like a point defence?

Thanks in advance

Are you sure its automatic? When using a button you seem to cover an area around you. I would think its for "catching" either the missiles in that area or the ship that is firing to make it miss. Not sure. Would be weird if its automatic when you can push a button for it. No idea...

The ECM was a disappointment for me.

Why? The sound effect is terrible and I so so wanted the ECM to sound like the amazing BBC Model B version. It really screams at you. :)

The sound guys have been truly amazing with Elite but please guys.. Give us a better ECM sound.

Steve. please how does the darn thing work?

Is it auto as well as trigger activated?

Triggered means using one of the 2 fire buttons. So fit a point defence instead and prepare to dodge! :)

Use point defence only if you want to be shot at in stations (atm)

I use chaff as well as ECM. Both are on buttons and work well. All you need to do is get used to using them.

Not that I've bothered with it myself, but I believe you hold your trigger down until the missiles targetting you change colour (to blue?) at which point they have been "ECM"'d and no longer track your signature.

HTH.

This is supposed to be fixed soon.. Point defence won't trigger a Station reaction :D I'm not buying one until this is fixed.

It was never automatic in the original ... you used to have to press E ... I would like to be able to press E again, but right now you need it on a firegroup :(

No to automatic, that's just silly.

Some of the equipment assignments are just weird, and ECM is one of them. Chaff can be a button, PDT is automatic, and EMC requires a wep group. Discovery Scanner takes a internal slot, but a Warrant Scanner takes a utility slot.

At times it seems like the design decision was to make SURE someone couldn't outfit a ship to maximize a particular purpose, unless they wish to spend $100,000,000.
