Economic route plotting appears borked

As someone who tends to map regions i cant help notice that the economic route plotter no longer follows the route lines in the galaxy map.
It appears that economic route plotting may just now be calculating 50% of your max range for each jump now.

Ive checked on the issues tracker and can see other people have noticed this as well as its messing with peoples exploration

I spent a few weeks in eco and can confirm that the plotter won't plot at the shortest range. However, it's not up to 50%, but something between 10 to 20%... I believe it also depends on the star density (of course...), and if any filter is in place or not. It must be a very sophisticated algorithm that tries to blend the shortest range with the "straightiness" of the route
