I know that something is going on. I got "held up" by a real player gangster tonight for the first time since I've been playing online.
I was in a Lakon 9 with 440 tonnes of agricultural medicines (fertilizer). I was so surprised by the threat as I exited the docking station in Aulin that I tried to run, not even thinking that all I had to do was stay within the No Fire Zone! Either that or open up my arsenal of weapons...
To the pirate's credit, he politely asked me to drop 4 tonnes of my cargo. I should have listened.
My point is, I was so surprised by actually being threatened by another player that I didn't even know how to respond logically. I just panicked. I couldn't even find the buttons I wanted to press in order to communicate and comply before I was shot down.
This was truly one of the most exciting and thrilling moments I've yet had in this game, and even though I got killed and lost my ship along with all its cargo, I thought to myself, "Yes! This is Dangerous! This is Elite!".
I cannot wait until these kinds of scenarios start to become more prevalent in the game. It teaches you when you lose like that. You look back on it and think about what you could have done differently. You come back the next day wiser and more aware.
That's what this game offers. It's your story coinciding with someone else's in totally unpredictable ways. It's absolutely wide open.
But I definitely think that the market is changing every day and hour and people are reacting to it. Even through piracy the economy can be effected. i.e. 440 tonnes of agri medicines are now just floating in space, possibly lost, because of my one encounter.
