I was wondering if people would like ED apps for Tablets and Smartphones? These could offer online access to ships systems and offline access to the Bulletin boards and comms.

I realise this shouldn't be a priority until after ED is realised.

I voted 'no' on a personal level, as it's not something I'm interested in. However, I'm not against the idea of them being made available. It's probably a good way to keep people involved in the game.

Yeah, would be handy to waste some time on a bus or similar.

This through should likely be under the "General" forum rather than "Off-Topic" though.

Could be useful to have apps for certain aspects of the game.

Thread moved to ED General :D

I voted yes, although I do not intend to use the media (perhaps one day a tablet ?). But priority to PC and Mac. Tablet and smartphone are for mobile workers and vacationers.

Perhaps a microprocessor directly transplanted into the brain ? Also be a solution for the obsessed, right ?

:p

Oh, where can I get one of those. I hope that it doesn't run windows as I don't want to crash, I will be doing enough of that in my cobra :)
Even though I voted yes since I would like to do stuff while on the move, I can't imagine what I would actually do on the app apart from reading news stories - any ideas?
It would have to be something sensible as in not a notification system where it prompts you to get back online due to something you were waiting for since that could mean people speeding in order to get home and crashing etc.

never enough I/O

I have 3 screens but I know they will be tied up looking at the stars passing me by. I like the idea of having an app on my phone/tablet to let me keep an eye on my ships status or checking system cargo prices.

The tablet would be great for trade information, route planning and locating missions. Without needing your LT or PC you can just hop on and plan out your routes and then hop on your LT/PC to enact your plans. The galaxy map we have seen just itches to be on a tablet.

My memory of Elite is there was a lot of working out which places to go to and remembering what the trade prices were at those locations. That for me is what a tablet is for.

Plus the huge benefit for me is that most of us older gamers with family responsibilities can sit on the sofa watching the TV with a tablet in hand and make plans for when the kids go to bed thereby gaining game time.

That would be a great app.

At launch ... probably not ... but as an "extra" in time - sure why not :)

App is a very good idea. Especially if you enable viewing and sending messages, in addition to the review of trading and planning routes. especially if permitted receiving and sending messages, even when you're not logged into the game.

I voted yes to offset your no vote. If the poll is inapplicable to you (as it is to me), and there is no such option, then why not just not vote?

For the first time ever, I agree with Liqua. I don't think it should be a priority at launch.

However, more Elite is NEVER a bad thing. So I would be all for route planning, mission viewing, ship loadout testing, etc. etc.

In fact, I have seen several games that allow you to test out different equipment configurations outside of the game, so you can decide what equipment to put on your favorite ship. Would love to see this as part of an app, or at the very least a fan-website.

The OP asks "I was wondering if people would like ED apps for Tablets and Smartphones?". That was the question I answered, even though the poll title is worded differently. Otherwise, it would be a very small minority of people who actively think there shouldn't be tablet apps ever, and the question would be a bit pointless.

I voted 'yes' as I spend quite a bit of time on the sofa and in bed with my tablet. An app that allowed me to view information on my ships, systems I've visited, prices etc. would be great. Add in the ability to chat to your friends in-game and I think it's a winner. I'd even pay separately for such an app.
