ED as christmas present

Hey guys,

call me old-fashioned, but if I gift something I very much like it to be a physical item of some sort, i.e. the boxed version.
However the shop only offers the box as an upgrade edition. So I buy mercenary edition + boxed upgrade, is that correct?
I am somewhat unsure what I get when buying the mercenary edition, is it even transferable in a reasonable way? Or would it require me to a priori create an account with the recipients email address, leading to him getting email notifications right away?

Also I'm wondering if this will even ship in time for christmas. I am assuming it ships from UK only, but am unsure if that's true. In that case the 16th would seem a rather close call for us continental europeans considering the general overload of the world's postal services during the relevant timeframe.

It can be downloaded from the website, even if you get the boxed edition.

What you could probably do is create an alternate email address, purchase the game, then give the recipient the account info. I want to think they can change that email address from the account page, so they wouldn't get advanced notice, and it would be available right away for them to download on Christmas day, even if you don't have the box in hand yet.

Edit: I just looked at my own account. The name and email address can be edited from the account page, so I would think you should have no trouble creating an account for them, using that to purchase the game, and then go from there on Christmas to get them started. Just be sure to remove your credit card info if you saved it.
