ED Audio Levels - Low?

I also have this problem. Getting the crackling noise to, despite turning off all the sound improvement thingies in my computer's audio settings.

Well, I'm not using surround sound.
Actually, confusingly, I had it set to 5.1 despite me using headphones. The sound was the same, if not louder! Confusing.

Using a 5.1 surround, mostly with the "Home Theatre" sound option, I usually have to turn the volume up for ED. When playing late, I tried the "Night" sound option, and... The Bass almost exploded; I'm sure all the neighbourhood woke up (I Was using the Basic Discovery Scanner)

BTW, there's probably too much bass in the Basic Discovery Scanner sounds (At least compared to the other ones): If I turn the bass/volume to an acceptable level for the discovery scanner, I barely hear the bass of my FSD/Boost. I think the three sounds should have comparable levels of Bass

Using analog cables, and the MB embedded soundcard (Realtek ALC1150 I think)

I have a Logitech USB Wireless Surround Sound (G930)

The volume is quite low and can do with a massive boost.

Get crackly audio distortions flying through the station slot. Getting annoying now.

Nighttime mode is louder than Home Theater!!! So something ain't right.

As a very amateur producer (.....I don't really make music much but I love fiddling with synthesizers) I am probably gonna be wrong with this however it is a very relevant point to electronic sound engineering in general. Many people think louder = better, however it doesn't. I have no idea how this game uses audio, whether there is a built-in synthesizer/s running LFO's etc or whether it is all sample-based in game. But with music the apparent "loudness" is usually artificial, using compression and limiting etc. It is a dark art and takes much skill, however there is a drawback; you lose dynamic range. Dynamic range is very important, simply it is the difference between the loudest and quietest volumes, sounds fairly irrelevent however it makes a big difference. So I have no qualms about the low overall volume of this game as the quality of the audio is top-notch and knowing a little about what it takes to produce such sound I am massively impressed by the work done here, and everyone else is too given the comments.
So I can live with the lower volume when the audio quality and dynamic range is this good. However having decent headphones with a built-in amp maybe means this is less an issue for me than it is with others. Turn it up and bask in the glory! ;)

Agree with CoeSine, (regarding Dynamic Range) there has been a loss of dynamic range since beta, Have been using the nightime setting to get best audio result but something happened today that screwed it up ... Started to hear a greater range of sound effects but all muffled again...... Have a decent sound system with good quality headphones ... so sorry CoeSine but for this evening bask in the blandness.
