ED damage mechanics, surprisingly external internal modules

I was wondering why they could not put a blue sphere(external) over the yellow sphere (internal) to mimic hull armor.

Yellow sphere damages would be weighted by the state of the blue sphere surrounding the yellow sphere...

Wouldn't that solve the main gripe people have about how damage is dealt to internal modules?

If these sphere are actuall the hitboxes of the modules I am deeply disappointed ...

I wonder what yellow sphere the Anaconda has with its power plant? Wouldn't be surprised if it is bigger than the acutal ship :D

EDIT: Maybe hull upgrades could be used for that suggestion?

From memory those spheres are scaled up to aid visibility (stated in the article).

If they are scaled up, I wonder how the hit are usually registered. Especially with a collision mesh around the spaceship. But there probably is some programming voodoo behind.
