So I just got a DK2 yesterday, and after the usual kerfuffles getting it running (setting to extended mode, getting the camera working, etc) I started playing. I found the tips about gamma and blur, and they helped a bit -- pointers to other things I can do (and general DK2 tuning advice) would be greatly appreciated.
As many people have noted, text is almost unreadable, even when you lean into it. The suggestion to set the UI to RGB colors so you don't get as much fringing would be helpful.
I was thinking about this and it occurred to me that what might also be useful is an option so that when you lean towards a headsup UI element, it moves towards you, giving a zoom effect that means you don't need to lean as far. This would be particularly helpful with the scanner and when scooping ore and loot. It would be particularly nice if you could turn it on and off and adjust the amount of "lean zoom" using keys or some of the unused HOTAS dials, because then you could fiddle with the settings while in VR mode.
Speaking of scooping, it occurred to me that the current mini-display is a bit out of place in both regular and VR mode (and hard to interpret in VR), and I flashed on the elegant "fly the boxes" display from Blade Runner. It would be cool if ED had something similar; a set of boxes or ellipses that show the path you need to fly to go to the currently targeted object, displayed in space. Normally, it would only appear if that object was off the edge of the screen, but when you have the scoop open, it could appear all the time, and show the path the ship needs to fly so that the object goes into the scoop. Much easier to fly, and a great shout-out.
