ED doesn't launch DK2 in 1.3

Hi guys,

Just installed 1.3 and the Store launches fine but when I try to launch ED the Rift doesn't pick it up and remains black. The sensor doesn't come on either. Is there a setting I must adjust ? I was under the impression I could just launch ED after the updates (of the game, the NVidia drivers, and the Oculus runtime) and it would just start. What am I doing wrong ?

same issue here, i have the steam installation, it loads but in side by side 3d mode and only on the screen not the rift

I'd get this occasionally with 0.8 and my DK2. Try disconnecting the DK2 and/or restarting the run-time. Restarting the computer also works for me.

Oculus Store -> Options -> General -> Unknown sources: allow apps that have not been reviewed by Oculus to run on my rift (Check on).

If the program you are trying to run is not part of My library, then it will not display unless that checkmark is on.

Well, I restarted my computer and something is happening but it's stuck in the "please wait" mode. The mirror window boots up normally on my monitor but the DK2 doesn't seem to kick in.

i have the steam version, i did what was suggested above and now its working

load the oculus store up,

then in the window that comes up on the desktop, went to Options -> General -> Unknown sources: allow apps that have not been reviewed by Oculus to run on my rift (Check on).

then rebooted,

and after that just started elite as normal, the rift comes on, you have to look at text box for 2 seconds to make the disclaimer go away and then it runs.

Confirmed.

The reboot was also key in my case. Just do it.

Also, performance is sweet man... I have the largest smile in my face now. Smooth as silk in stations and asteroids fields, not a hint of juddering.

The SC transition graphical glitch is still present. But I guess we can't expect too much.

I've checked on the option in settings - I've rebooted. I leave the Store open (???) and then started ED ...

Always it comes up on the main monitor with the dual vision - nothing on the rift. I check options -> Grpahics -> No second monitor / HMD displayed.

Any ideas?

  • Make sure SteamVr is not installed, you don't need it and will cause issues.
  • Ensure graphics drivers the latest
  • Reboot
  • Login
  • Switch on Rift and ensure blue lights on camera and HMD
  • Make sure ED is upgraded
  • Ensure unauthorised apps selected in Oculus Store general settings
  • Using the mirror windows navigate to options and ensure HMD Stereo is selected.
  • Set resolution (of mirror window) to 800x600 and refresh to 75mhz

Try that

Worst case.

  • Deinstall all Oculus stuff and SteamVR
  • Upgrade graphics drivers
  • Reboot
  • Follow above and try again.

Confirmed that as Mazburg said above, you have to set the option to allow Unknown Sources to launch ED outside of the Oculus Store.

Also, I take it everyone here knows that ED can also be added to the Oculus Store for free my logging into your account on the FD store page and getting a redeemable code, right? You can then run it directly from the Store, although that does still open the launcher in Windows as per the PC first.

That's what I don't seem to have ... any HMD options.

My Rift just sits in the VR Home environment looking at the menu and never switches to ED - even with the settings option for unknown sources set to in.

Did you reboot, I didn't have HMD options until I rebooted and then it started working.

Yep - rebooted (twice now).

Do I have this right - the Oculus store / app needs to be running in the background? That's the only way I can get the HMD and camera to light up.

I have the 3D option to window side by side but no HMD specific options anywhere. Should these be in the monitor selection (I only have Primary as an option there). It's not in the 3D section.

Yes keep store app open BEFORE you launch ED. Launching ED "should" open the store app.
In ED options>graphics, there is the 3D option "drop down" box which "should" have Stereo Headphones in it. Around the area of 3D separation option.

What do you have under 3D in the graphics menu?

Do any other Oculus apps work? Might not be Elite. You're plugged into a USB3 port, right?

DK2 doesn't need USB3, I have mine in USB2 ports.
Good point to, check other DK2 apps work. Sounds like a specific DK2 issue rather than a ED issue.

I'm having a similar issue except my camera doesn't seem to be detected, despite being on a dedicated (oculus approved) usb 3.0 card. No light on the camera, HMD is detected. When going through the setup and it does the hardware scan, nothing is detected but, if one skips everything, it does detect the HMD and head tracking working but, since standing doesn't change the viewpoint I think the camera is off.

Did you guys detect the hardware or skip? If detected how long did it take?

Selected, it looks like a little slider type thing in the options.
