ED: eyetracker on curved monitor

A few years back I bought a Tobii 4c eyetracker to use in Elite Dangerous, but was not able to use when I switched to a curved monitor since the hardware requires a flat edge to be placed on.

After reading a story of someone who succesfully placed the eyetracker underneath and a bit forward, I decided to make something like that as well (and share it online in case someone runs into the same problem in the future (plus I'm quite happy with the end result)). I had a bit of wood (hardwood) laying around at the attic and decided to use it for this small project. I started with this design (and altered the edges a bit while doing the woodwork). All sizes are in millimeters.

The design uses 4 magnetic plates (15x15x3mm, Neodymium, 5,5kg/55Newton attraction-force each), and 4 steel plates which are glued to the bottom of the screen. I wanted a magnetic connection so I can re-use the block if I get a new monitor in the future (i would only need to glue 4 new steel plates to the new monitor). I used a wood-cutter/router I bought last year for the first time for this small project (good practice). The wooden block has a big hole in the middle to leave the monitor controls reachable (mini joystick).

Preparation to glue the steel plates to the monitor. I have placed a thin layer of plastic between the magnet en de plate to ensure I do not glue it all together to the monitor.

The eyetracker now works for my ultra wide monitor (R=1800); 34", though it gets a bit inaccurate in the far corners of the screen. The difference is about 10mm, though I might be able to tweak it a bit in the calibration mode (the difference is always towards the middle of the screen, so I might need to virtually enlarge/shrink the eyetracker in the calibration menu). All in all it works better then I expected, and i'm also quite happy with the end result. The wooden block can easily be removed by sliding it forward (pulling it down would require 4x5,5kg of force, by sliding it requires a lot less force).

It might have taken half of this Saturday, but at least now I have someone to place my pencil after I am done writing down note while flying around. 😅

PS. I was not quite sure where to post this in the Elite subforum.
