ED Gladiatorial Games (Who is the best of the Best PvP warrior?)

I have a vision for competitive pvp
To find the best combat pilot out there. I propose a death match tournament in order to find that out. Here is how it works.

Pilots must have an eagle with the two starting laser basic non upgraded internals but with the shield generator ripped out to make room for cargo racks. No Cargo accept for gold. No shield enhancers. No mines. No Chaff. No point defense. Just the basic eagle with some cargo space.
The two pilots must pony up 1 crate of gold as an entrance fee. Two players drop the gold, which is then collected by the ref. The players then battle for a place in round two. Loser gets blown up. Winner gets the gold and a chance in round two if they desire to test themselves further. Should both players get blown up, a rematch is in order.
Entrance for round 2 is 2 Gold and a victory in round one. So on and so forth until there is only one. Should a winner of a round not want to continue, they fly away with their prize gold and forfeit their place in the next round. The overall winner gets a huge amount of gold and the publicity of being the best pilot in the system.

I propose the two combatants meet in some anarchy system. The ref should ensure no outside influence thus should have a heavy duty ship.
Sounds like an interesting competition. What say you all. Are you game? Are there any exploitable flaws in my plan? Or does the current game mechanics make meeting up for two players impossible. Even at some Nav beacon.

I'm sure if you set up a PVP group especially for the competition it would work fine. I'd go for stock Sideys and no need for gold - pride is what matters.

Not sure why you suggest no shields since it removes a key part of the game power management.

I was thinking about almost the exact same idea except with Sidewinders. Couldn't work out a way of checking what class of modules are on the competing ships though. You'd just have to trust people didn't upgrade.

Good idea with the eagle but i won't put any restrictions on upgrades. The only restriction i propose is no shield cell banks.

I would suggest that part of the skill in being a really hard core PVP player* is in managing their various systems so apart from specifiying the ship anything else should be allowed.

*i'm not, by the way. Cant fight my way out of a paper bag :)

I would not bother with shield banks though. That would get ridiculously long. BTW woodstok, you don't have to be an ace to join. You get better with practice. Real commanders would provide a great learning experience. Especially when the ships are equal and its down to flying skill.
