Hardware & Technical ED Hyperthreading

does anyone know if full release Elite dangerous will utilize hyperthreading?

(I've got Intel i5 on my shopping list U c)

thanx :)

i5 4590 quad core is my current choice

The quad core i5's don't have hyper threading.

Hyper threading is simply multiple (usually 2) threads per core. The only i5 that have hyper threading are the dual core i5 that are then hyper threaded to give 4 threads on 2 cores.

Your 4590 is 4 core, 4 thread so no hyper threading. If you wanted hyper threading on one, then you need to be going for the i7 series.

But as stated above, very few games use hyper threading, so an i7 is wasted, you're better off sticking with the quad core i5. (I say quad core i5, as you don't really want the dual core hyper threaded i5)

Well every Game act very different on CPU demands. which more how SMP is utilized often limited. This is so extreme.

Hyper treading scale less then real core but can scale. Depends more on specific games. Also Haswell generation of HT has 8 ports to Core pipeline after decoder. And behind each port the unit aren't the same. Which means that very good for Multitask. Mixing very different code often need different units. So Hyper treading might be yet bit more effective then older architectures. But it still isn't a real core. Which has everything for its tread.

With most games even real cores won't scale much beyond 4 threads.

how ever Modern game demand more then two cores.
Hyper treading dual core give you sometimes enough to scale decent but often not. Some game totally aren't CPU demanding. Others are but won't scale.

So I would go for at least quad real cores. HT is then not relevant for near future. Until real game support up to 8 treads and have a load that need that more computing power.

6 core or 4 with HT or 8cores with or without HT are not utilized by modern games. Only synthetically like 3Dmark which apparently got the luxury to develop a better scaling engine. But as always 3Dmark represents the future not the current state. As with 3Dmark HT scale beyond 4 real cores.

Because I play many games. Will buy many games in the future. But not many CPU. So I would go for future proof. So to stick with 3D mark. And so far budged reach get as much CPU as possible for the next 5 to 10 years.

My CPU are old i920 and P2_X4_965 both Quads the iNtel with HT.
with plenty of old Ram 12GB and 8GB.

So not really in the need to Upgrade.
