ED install. What folders can I get rid of?

Hello folks

Doing a spot of cleaning up on my PC and I notice my Frontier>EDLaunch>Products folder is nearly 30gb in size!
Surely that can be slimmed down a little?
The folders in the Products folder are currently:

COMBAT_TUTORIAL_DEMO (Date modified 8/22/2015)
elite-dangerous-64 (Date modified 8/23/2016)
FORC-FDEV-D-1001 (Date modified 10/18/2015)
PUBLIC_TEST_SERVER (Date modified 11/16/2015)
PUBLIC_TEST_SERVER_64 (Date modified 5/17/2016)

I put the dates there to show potential obsolescence.

So is all this necessary?

I play Horizons 64bit. I got the Update Pass thingy back in the Premium Beta days so I should be getting pretty much everything. But surely I can get rid of some of these folders?

What do you think?

Thanks

With todays HD capacities ... ?

However, if you feel you must, try renaming the folders and then start the game. I personally think you can't delete anything.

Just keep elite-dangerous-64 (Date modified 8/23/2016)

Public tests are beta folders and will never be needed again.

One is the demo you play if not logged into the launcher, think the last one (FORC-FDEV) is the 32 bit version. (just checked it is the 32 bit version)

I only have the elite-dangerous-64 folder after a tidy up, and it all works fine.

The entire reason hard drive capacities have increased is that everything needs more space these days. I have a one terabyte drive and had do do some housekeeping the other week because I was down to about 50 gigs of free space, yes it's still a lot but it's all relative.

Yep, strangely enough I was just doing HD cleaning when I replied.

I freed up 60 gig by trashing program installation files , unused games folders, etc. Left for much longer and it would take ages to go through, I like to keep on top of it every couple of months.

Very useful, thanks

P.S.I have this problem, that I don't know how to move ED's files to my hdd unit from the ssd. I installed to hdd, but the bulk of the files still seem to go in the ssd (120gb total, 17 gb left)

Yes that´s true. As a hobby photographer and video filmer ... when are the data crystals due to arrive? :D

Not too sure, I have never done an Elite install apart from my main drive. The details given in the launcher install say that that if you install the launcher into the program file directory, then all subsequent game files will end up in your USER/xxx/Appdata folder. But if you install the launcher on another drive all game files will be in a folder created there.

I just thought, there is a scenario where a 32 bit client or the standalone 1.x client is needed.

That is when you get stuck due to a bug on a surface and then need to log in to another version to force yourself into orbit.

I'd delete :

COMBAT_TUTORIAL_DEMO (Date modified 8/22/2015)
PUBLIC_TEST_SERVER (Date modified 11/16/2015)
PUBLIC_TEST_SERVER_64 (Date modified 5/17/2016)

and keep

elite-dangerous-64 (Date modified 8/23/2016)

With

FORC-FDEV-D-1001 (Date modified 10/18/2015)

pretty sure it's the old 32bit version and you can delete but would rename it first to be sure.

If you intend to play/test the beta that is coming soon why not keep the public_test_server* folders.
This will surely speed up the update for these when the beta comes.

Each beta you participate in creates it own client and folder. The more you test, the more folders you accumulate and none of them are linked.

Caveat: MAKE A BACKUP before deleting anything. Test before dropping you backup. (sorry for shouting)

COMBAT_TUTORIAL_DEMO (Date modified 8/22/2015)
Combat tutorial. You access this through the launcher. If you don't want it, uninstall it through the launcher first, then delete folder

elite-dangerous-64 (Date modified 8/23/2016)
Main game 64bit version. Used for both Standard 64bit ED and 64bit Horizons

FORC-FDEV-D-1001 (Date modified 10/18/2015)
32bit ED install, premium Beta version. If you install 32bit ED, this is it. Uninstall from launcher and then delete folder if you don't want it.

PUBLIC_TEST_SERVER (Date modified 11/16/2015)
Standard ED beta testing install 32bit. You can delete this.
Will reappear if you install and play the next 32bit ED beta

PUBLIC_TEST_SERVER_64 (Date modified 5/17/2016)
Horizons beta test install 64bit. You can delete this
Will reappear if you install and play the next Horizons beta.

Very useful, thx. Btw, anybody knows about the old Horizons folder in steam ? A relict from the time as E: D and Horizons were two different programs on Steam but seems obsolete by know !? It's named Elite_Dangerous_Horizons, in my case last updated 26.01.2016...

Ok, Renamed it by now and try it out later

Strange. I've participated in every beta and never deleted any install folders (on at least 2 PC's) and all I have is the two PUBLIC_TEST_SERVER and PUBLIC_TEST_SERVER_64 folders.

Ahh, maybe I'm thinking of the client version folders then, I know there was a lot of the Force-Fdev folders getting added.

You are correct. If you want to test during any Beta processes, these are required or you'll be downloading the entire test platform from scratch. I made that mistake once, so now I keep them so it just requires an incremental update when Beta time arrives!
