ED is a pretty much a simulator, so why can't we have more control/keybind options?

AFAIK, everything is operated based on a single-action principle, i.e. the button that lowers the landing gear is the exact same one that raises it. For people who have fancy-pants control panels or who have DIY gear, it would be nice to have the option to have a binding for Action [on] and Action [off], as well as a single action.

The gear lever on my Virpil panel is under-utilised. It has a key-functions for up, neutral and down. Being able to use it would be a positive for immersion, isn't that the goal?

Disclaimer: first world problems, I know.

I have a Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS.
It comes with Thrustmaster's TARGET ecosystem (GUI + script editor).
With the scripting, I can achieve a level of immersion that otherwise would go untapped.

I do not know if Virpil comes with anything like TARGET, but I do know that Joystick Gremlin is manufacturer agnostic if you wanted to dip your toes in the water. Any option chosen requires a learning curve and some basic understanding or aptitude for coding.

The biggest issue is, if you are anything like me, you may get sucked into the "next little tweak" which ends up consuming more time coding than playing the game!

The title is a good suggestion for casual keyboard users, too.

Imagine a hotkey for "toggle supercruise assist". You lock onto a bookmarked station, arrive into that system and you don't have to search for it in the left menu. The station is already targeted, just activate the flight assist module with a hotkey.

Imagine a setting which makes an SRV slow down on its own when you stop pressing W. It would feel like driving a car in any other game.

Given that every function can be assigned up to two different keys / key combos, you can kind of get that effect by binding both the lever-down and the lever-up to deploying landing gear. Sure, both will then just toggle the landing gear but hey, it's better than nothing. You can then press down to deploy the landing gear and press up to stow it, if you want the immersion.

"ED is a pretty much a simulator". I do not agree with that. Too many things make no sense at all like no autopilot, speed limit, scooping fuel from sun while still being vulnerable to laser fire, take-off and landing on extreme G planets (40-50) while having troubles on 0.5g, WWII style combat, short weapon range, slow projectiles, fixed star positions, "gentle" neutron jet cones, black holes, materials and goods with different densities taking up the same cargo space, suits power capacity measured in the same units as ship (both in MW), suit weapons being deadly to ships... and many other things. It is simply a game with very simplified flight model but it works and it is enjoyable for common players (like me) who do not have extensive knowledge about physics involved in all those actions.

Uh....I'm playing ED on a full CH-HOTAS, Throttle, pedals, stick. The game still has more bindings than I can fit on that. So please, not even more than that.
