Discussion ED Mining Tool - Screenshot Teaser

EDMT - Elite Dangerous Mining Tool

Consider it alpha. Macro-enabled Excel sheet. Formulas are nearly complete, formatting and graphics are still WIP. If you're interested in details about how it can help the mining process, just let me know. For now, just some screenshots.

I'm currently working on figuring out how to implement ANOVA testing on a dedicated sheet within the file. It should allow us to compare the how modules affect our performance through descriptive statistics.

Keep in mind, this isn't a finished product, so relax and go easy on me. Some of the alignment issues, or formatting, etc are easy tasks and I save them for last. :)

Img 2 - A small snippet of the 'Records' sheet showing several test runs and various statistical categories
Img 3 - Rough draft of a fun addition, a 'ranking' system that rewards you with some silly and fun things as you progress. Based on a few performance categories

Looks interesting :) +1 rep.
What's the Tier system about?
And what is the red/blue limpet circle & numbers about?
I don't really understand what img2 is about.
.
Personally speaking I mostly don't bother mining anything less valuable than Osmium, I will occasionally pick up Silver when I'm desperate, e.g. I've run out of limpets! And I've read a lot of people do the same.
That said, I haven't mined in anything bigger than my Type 7 which has 160t of cargo space, IIRC. Maybe for bigger ships it might be different??

The tier system is simply a way of grouping similarly priced ores. Your "focus rating" is a weighted average of your ore haul based on the tier level, and this tells you which tier you 'focused' on the most during your mining run. This, by itself, may not be of much value to some folks, but comparing this value to your tons/hr, profit/hr, and other stats will help describe WHY your profit is what it is or WHY you ran out of limpets etc etc.

Moving on from that point, the red/blue limpet circle is simply a usage graph for your collector limpets and prospector limpets. Based on your tons/min, limpets used/min, cargo size, available cargo space, and Focus Rating, you will have a "Optimum Limpet" purchase suggestion value attributed to your performance.

In your case, if you're finding yourself running out of limpets, your "Optimum Limpets" value will indicate whether or not you needed more or less (based on your speed and focus rating and other stats). If you want detailed info on the "under the hood" calculations, message me.

The second image, the bar graphs, are just a teaser for what your "historical" information page will display. Based on your selected report range, you can view a graphical representation of various performance categories.

The third image is just a fun ranking system within the spreadsheet, which will unlock fun things as your progress in each category. Unnecessary, but fun and why the hell not? Easy to implement.

Sounds good :), don't worry about sending me the maths, I probably wouldn't understand it anyway ;).
.
Re running out of limpets, I upped the number I took with me from ~80% of space to ~90%, I also later found out that the lower rated prospector I was using was giving me lower amount of asteroid fragments! Which isn't mentioned in the outfitting stats!

Yea...unfortunately Frontier isn't very thorough on explaining some of ED's intricate mechanics. Other games might have huge manuals.

Even the original Elite didn't fully document everything, sometimes it's a PITA, sometimes it's fun. The manual for original Elite said the max planet tech level was 12, I found a few 15s! :)

Looks beautiful. Not sure how it would work though. I don't use Excel... the other chap had to change everything to .net so it would be compatible for everyone.

Also how it this used.. manually inputting what you mine? It doesn't scrape does it?

Yes, it would be manual. However, once you set up your ship, you never have to touch that again (unless you change modules or get another ship).

Each time you mine, 4 fields would be required.

- Timer Elapsed
- Limpets Taken
- Limpets returned
- Ore amounts

You simply type in these pieces of information and the rest is taken of for you. You'll have an "overall" performance section and a "historical" performance section. Don't worry about what that means just yet.

I can't connect Excel to Elite Dangerous :) so yes, it will be manual. But don't let it bother you, it literally takes 9 seconds to put your info in! haha
