ED on Debian 12, HOTAS issue.

Hi all,

I'm running into an issue and wondering if there's a solution out there.
As the title suggests, I have ED running on Debian 12 (Steam, proton). Everything's working except my X52 HOTAS.
The system sees it, I can see and configure etc. But Steam and Elite only see it as an XBox controller. As such, I can't use the throttle control and only a few buttons.
It does show up in Elite as "X52 Saitek", but the layout and feedback when trying to change controls again show up as an XBox controller.
Anyone run into this before and have a potential fix?
Thanks.

I use kb/mouse only. But once I had gamepad, I recall, wine has some control panel and there you can configure devices as it would be in windows. However, you should run it bound to game prefix, so use WINE_PREFIX variable to show full path to where game's C:\ is.

FWIW, I remember using an x52 under steam/proton/wine/linux without any big issues (just some controls were unusable (I think 32 button limit)).

I suspect it might be steam that is messing with your controller, IIRC there are a few settings in steam to control this.

Yeah I have Wine/protontricks but doesn't seem to be much of an option to do that that's immediately apparent.
And with everything done natively now via steam/proton I'm at a bit of an impasse.

I wouldn't mind a 32 button limit at the moment, but it seems so far I can only get 10 or so and only on the stick.
Steam options are showing X52 Hotas (and reacting to stick, not throttle), but any setup is just being mapped, at least on screen, to an xbox controller.

Close steam and try other tools, for example
To figure out who maps it wrong. It's a long chain of the "mappers".

Google for more tools. I think I saw some QT based tool which allows to config joystick to keyboard mapping.

Alright, so had one last bash at reloading the same things and now it's suddenly working.
I'm not going to ask questions, I'm just going to enjoy this for now.
Thanks for the suggestions and happy Easter all.
