ED resolution bug/problem FIX in HTC VIVE...Massive Difference!!!!

Guys, the way that worked perfectly for me to fix the resolution problem is like this.

  1. Install Elite in the FD launcher, that file is independent than the one of steam.
  2. Launch Elite in the FD launcher, NOT from steam, the regular 2d Elite.
  3. Open SteamVR and have the headset and base station ready.
  4. Go to the graphics options and under "3D" select HDM Headphones.
  5. Restart Elite FROM FD launcher and you are ready to go.
Please post if this work for you too.

Works yes, readable/clear text questionable, and navigation in star map unusable.

Given that this was the title Vive were using to push there hardware, someone slipped up.

But the future is going to be fun, when they get there act together.

What is the point of this thread? This is how I've always done it - what is the 'fix'?

Maybe you dont know how bad is when you lunch it directly from steam, which is how i suppose everybody was doing it. It is still bad, but is much more playable, there is a very clear difference for me between the two.

This might explain why I didn't think the Vive resolution was so bad. I've always launched from the Frontier launcher. It's still not as smooth as the DK2 though.

I'm the same. Only played about 10 mins in 3 weeks but its fine. Edge definition poor in VR Low compared to DK2 but cannot uses MSAA as my VR "non" passmark is very nearly off the negative scale.

Made no difference to me either.

I am massively disappointed that the Vive is, at this moment, far far inferior to the DK2 for Elite.

I'd love for someone from Fdev to comment on this and explain to us what is going on. I mean, had no one tested it. If not, why not and if they did then what setup did they use so we can all have a chance on trying it out.

I only got into VR for Elite so at the moment I'm having to switch back to the old DK2 just to play this game!!

Tell me, i cancel my order of CV1 by the time oculus had no official support and the vive was the only headset working, now this is just bull    . FD speak out whats happening and when cannwe see the light at the end of the tunnel

Why isn't there an obvious option in the ED launcher, "64 bit VR", "64 bit 2D" etc. The whole change 3D setting is a workaround to me

Yeah this didn't work for me Either. Of all the things I was looking at trying on my Vive, Elite was at the top of my list. But despite the awful pixelation, walking around on the bridge of my Anaconda was AMAZING!

I definitely think there was a split in the experience and response to the pixelation/flickering/aliasing.
I am a non-steam user and I love playing Elite in the Vive. When people were saying it was "unplayable", I thought this was a bit extreme and didn't represent what I was experiencing.

I do think there seems to be an issue as the UI and some distant objects seem to be at a lower resolution than the Vive is capable of, but "unplayable", not even close.

My guess is that is was way worse for some steam users and that switching to the standalone launcher helps those people elevate their experience to what us standaloners have always seen: Not perfect, not as good as rift at the moment, but absolutely playable and better than dk2.

Is there anyone who was a non-steamer that finds Elite unplayable on the Vive?

It's late for me (4am) but this I think gives a different result. I used EDLaunch.exe and loaded up Elite Dangerous Horizons as per normal, then in graphics options I set the resolution to 1920x1080 for my monitor, then go to 3D and select HMD headphones (weird i know), it switched from my screen to the Vive.

The issues though, because it was launched directly and not VR, i had no key to reset camera view (make sure your vive is straight on) and it will crash out if you try and launch it from within Steam VR, set the graphics back to normal.

Will do more testing tomorrow, up way too late as it is :)

now if only it supported SLI so i could max out all the graphics options and still be buttery smooth! :)
