ED & SC comparison

Hey Cmdrs. Now that Star Citizen Alpha 2.1 is launched, how does it compare with EDH. What are your Pros & Cons of either or Both. I'm a newbie on each and having fun learning the curves on both. :)

Saw the planetary landings trailer for SC. Looked good & seamless. But will it be like this when released?
I'm sure that atmospheric worlds will look amazing in EDH2 too.
So or So - a lot of people will say that is how ED should have been on release. - Right - ED showed all what is desired by the community and SC learned from what ED had to experience the hard way. Well First mover advantage/hurdles vs 1st follower :D
IF my hardware can handle SC, I might give it a try :D

As soon as Elite lets me get out of my space ship and walk around - I will never, ever, ever think about SC again. It will be unable to compete in every way.

Also - 400gb of client run code = hacks for you, hacks for you, hacks for everyone!

-K

All the SC marketing renders got this nice space blue hue but the actual game got boring warm yellow. Of course it's just that one system but at least for now ED has no worries in lightning department. Even if we have only one light source. Are there multiple light sources available in currect SC alpha?

Some cutrate version of Squadron 42 may appear in a year or three. Star Citizen will likely never arrive, or if it does it will have devolved in to a janky version of Second Life, which may or may not have crosshairs.

Evaluating the games in their current state:

Places where Elite wins:
- Stable, working end-to-end game
- Can land on planets
- Dogfighting feels better (more tightly tuned to the desired gameplay experience, SC is still very clearly a WIP)

Places where SC wins:
- Space legs
- Neater damage modeling
- Long distance travel feels more seamless

Honestly, for me point #1 trumps everything. It didn't take me long to figure out that I'm not actually interested in Alpha-testing a WIP game. I'll dive into SC again once there's an official stable release of some kind.

Elite is released, Star Citizen not. /thread

this pretty much. In 1-2 years of polishing and fixing SC will hopefully be playable.

currently SC is a griefers heaven and is hostile to anyone looking to enjoy and explore space, it also seems to emphasize on pvp and forcing combat upon you (sadly, and i hope i will be wrong at a later time)

in essence you cant compare the two as one is unplayable and one is flawless in comparison, they also stand miles appart in size which makes ed the more exploration and ship flying game of the two for now.

give it 6-9 months and we will see what sc might be like, right now its a lot of shine but not much below the visual mask sadly. Space sim lovers will like both as well as nms the same though, so 2016/17 is lookin good!

Since I had a smooth 1h of actual gameplay in SC today I think I can compare what we have.
What SC have and ED dont is the walking around and EVA - its pretty great, especially EVA, its immersive and it adds whole bunch to mess with - I landed on a asteroid and took nice space walk around the belt, got back to the ship and went to fix the comm array in EVA - very cool experience.
Also I really like the idea that you have to walk up to your ship. Elite needs this, and I can't believe there are people who says it's a waste of time to develop first person experience in a space sim.
Second the travelling around the "instances" feels way more smooth in SC, maybe because of scale of the place, still its good.
What I don't like is the flight model and dogfights. Granted it's much better and natural than it was before but still its not very enjoyable with HOTAS. Elite hotas and track ir setup is pretty much perfect and controls are spot on.
